If you’ve got a fever for Sun Belt football, or you’re just the planning type, the Sun Belt Conference did you a favor yesterday. The league released its home-and-away match-ups for its 2014 conference schedule. The ordering will be worked out a later date.

Next year will be kind of a funky one for the Sun Belt. Western Kentucky departs for Conference USA, while Appalachian State, Georgia Southern, Idaho and New Mexico State arrive to fill in the void left when Florida International, Florida Atlantic, Middle Tennessee and North Texas left for Conference USA after the 2012 season. Appalachian State and Georgia Southern arrive from the Football Championship Subdivision, while Idaho and New Mexico State re-join the league on a football-only basis after serving as Sun Belt football charter members from 2001-05.

By the beginning of the 2014 season, six of the Sun Belt’s 11 football members will be playing either their first or second year in the conference. That’s life at the bottom of the FBS food chain.

The conference’s worst road trip (naturally) belongs to Idaho. The Vandals will trek 2,619 miles from Moscow, Idaho to Statesboro, Georgia, when they visit Georgia Southern, and travel another 2,499 miles to get from campus to Boone, N.C., for their visit to Appalachian State. The Vandals will travel a total of 9,409 miles (this is all one way, mind you) to get to their four conference games, while their four opponents will collectively travel only 8,395 miles getting to Moscow.

Luckily, no team has to visit Idaho and New Mexico State,

Each team will play four home games, four away games, and miss two conference opponents altogether.
