With multiple openings across the SEC, one guy that has the respect of many decision makers because of his quality experience at multiple programs and overall coaching pedigree is Tommy Tuberville.
Tubs is a veteran coach that has been through many wars and won at all three of his stops. He began his career as a head coach by going 25-20 at Ole Miss with three winning seasons in four years. He then moved to Auburn, where he led the Tigers to an 85-40 mark in 10 seasons with two outright SEC West titles and a share of three more. His stay on the Plains was capped in 2004 with an SEC championship and a 14-0 record.
After a year out of the game, Tuberville moved from the Plains of Auburn to the South Plains at Texas Tech. In three seasons, Tubs has put the Red Raiders in two bowl games in three seasons. He snapped Oklahoma’s 39-game home winning streak with a 41-38 upset of the Sooners in 2011 and ended West Virgina’s stay in the top five this season with a 49-14 drubbing.
In all, Tuberville’s teams have played in bowl games a dozen times over his last 15 seasons as a head coach.
There’s no doubt that he’s put together a resume that administrators notice and can appreciate. His experiences and opinion are held in high regard for programs looking for the right guy to help their program take the next step.
