'Your football program is a symbol of your head coach'

Minnesota has been churning out their "Brick by Brick" series for ten episodes now, stretching back to the beginning of the season, but their latest one highlighting their signature win over Northwestern may be the best one yet in the series.

While the insights and highlights of the game that cover the first seven minutes are excellent, what really caught my attention was the scene and narration in the locker room after Jerry Kill addressed the team.

"A football program is a symbol of your head coach." defensive backs coach Jay Sawvel explains at the end of the clip.

"That's what we felt like we did on Saturday. We fought, we competed, we battled. Things didn't always go our way, and things weren't always perfect or clean, but we kept fighting and kept battling and played hard. We dug in and we got a win, and that's how coach wanted it to be done."

It's hard to think of a program that has had a win mirror their head coach's personality more than Minnesota's win over Northwestern last Saturday. I had never thought of it that way, but it was very fitting as coach Kill continues to battle health problems in order to eventually return to the sideline, where he belongs.

This Saturday the Golden Gophers welcome Nebraska for a noon kickoff at TCF Bank Stadium.
