The Super Six: Outlook and opinion on college football's undefeated teams

Last week in this space we said one of the unbeatens heading into major showdowns would lose, though we had no idea who it would be. Sure enough, Oregon lost. We're now into two separate games of musical chairs. Alabama, Florida State, Ohio State and Baylor represent four teams circling two chairs, while Fresno State and Northern Illinois jockey for one seat on the back end of the BCS.

ACC
Florida State (9-0) - 59-3 over Wake Forest means the Seminoles can beat a conference opponent by eight touchdowns without Jameis Winston really breaking a sweat. Florida State clinched a spot in its second straight ACC championship game on Saturday and, most importanly, guaranteed itself a spot in Pasadena with four more wins.
The road ahead: vs. Syracuse, vs. Idaho, at Florida, ACC Championship

Big Ten
Ohio State (9-0) - An off week turned out to be the best week of the season for Urban Meyer's team, as the Buckeyes got one of the two (or maybe three) losses they'll need to secure a No. 2 spot come Selection Sunday.
The road ahead: at Illinois, vs. Indiana, at Michigan

Big 12
Baylor (8-0) - Baylor blew out Oklahoma on a night where its offense played a B game at best. Texas Tech limps its way to Arlington, but the Bears will be without their best wide receiver and possibly their top two running backs. Will it matter?
The road ahead: vs. Texas Tech (at Arlington, Texas), at Oklahoma State, at TCU, vs. Texas

MAC
Northern Illinois (9-0) - Northern Illinois took the week off to prepare for its biggest game of the regular season, versus 9-1 Ball State on Wednesday night.
The road ahead: vs. Ball State, at Toledo, vs. Western Michigan

Mountain West
Fresno State (9-0) - After falling behind on the road 10-0, Fresno State raced past Wyoming for a 48-10 rout. In a game many thought doubled as upset bait, the Bulldogs outgained Wyoming 600-296 and owned a 34-0 edge after halftime. The San Jose State game is now the Fresno State hater's next best chance for an upset.
The road ahead: vs. New Mexico, at San Jose State

SEC
Alabama (9-0) - Alabama survived its second of three major tests this regular season, pulling away from LSU for a 38-17 victory. The Tide will now effectively go into hibernation before its trip to Jordan-Hare Stadium in a game that could decide the SEC East title.
The road ahead:  at Mississippi State, vs. Chattanooga, at Auburn
