Big Ten agrees to no longer schedule FCS opponents

With the playoffs starting in 2014, many schools have talked about beefing up their non conference schedules to help their strength of schedule. The Big Ten is taking that one step further as a conference, as members have agreed to stop scheduling FCS opponents in the future.

Wisconsin AD Barry Alvarez shared the information during his monthly radio show on WIBA-AM last night.

“The non conference schedule in our league is ridiculous. It’s not very appealing.“

"So we’ve made an agreement that our future games will all be Division I schools. It will not be FCS schools.” Alvarez explained.

The change will likely take place in 2014 when Rutgers and Maryland join the league.

While many schools will likely make this move based on strength of schedule when the playoffs come around, it's interesting to see the Big Ten agreeing to it as an entire conference.

Question: Will this be a crushing blow to the budgets of the FCS programs that counted on these "money games"?
