Rich Rod: 'Some coaches don't coach effort, but we constantly do'

The differences are night and day between last seasons first spring practice for Rich Rodriguez and the first practice of this year.

"I remember the first practice last year, we got to halfway through with the popsicles and all of that, and they couldn't even walk to the popsicles."

"We're not in shape right now, but now they understand the routine." Rich Rod explained.

One thing that hasn't changed is him and his staff's view on coaching effort constantly.

"Some coaches don't believe you can coach effort, and that it should be assumed., but I think that we're always coaching effort."

"For me, it's more about fundamentally are they doing the right things? And effort wise, are they doing it on every snap?"

Doug Samuels has been with FootballScoop since 2011. Samuels joined the FootballScoop staff after serving as a college scout as well as an assistant coach at the college level, where he was fortunate enough to have coached every offensive position by age 24. Samuels is lifelong Michigan State fan and has admittedly enjoyed the past few seasons when he has been able to look forward to quality football the entire fall, instead of anxiously awaiting college basketball after the first few weeks of the college football season.
