  • Why was Dartmouth head coach Buddy Teevens on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” last night?

Dartmouth head coach Buddy Teevens appeared on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” last night to promote the Big Green’s Mobile Virtual Player, a moving tackling dummy that we debuted on FootballScoop a few weeks ago.

Dartmouth does not tackle in practice, but the MVP allows the Big Green an outlet to work on their form without banging on each other. Teevens says Dartmouth has enjoyed an 80 percent injury reduction since utilizing the MVPs. “Most concussions occur in practice, more so than in games,” he said.

The segment provided some great exposure for Teevens and Dartmouth, and ended with Colbert giving the dummy a try himself.

  • James Franklin pranks team by switching places with Key from “Key and Peele”

You’ve seen Key and Peele’s popular (and hilarious) East / West College Bowl skit, as well as a number of their other hilarious skits, but you’ve never seen comedian Keegan-Michael Key in a role quite like this.

For homecoming week, James Franklin decided to prank the team, and switched places with Key during a team meeting. Key, a master of impersonations, is a PSU alum who was back in town to serve as the Homecoming Grand Marshal.

It took all of two seconds for the players to realize that it was no longer their head coach addressing them, but Key kept the act alive and did a pretty spot on impression of James Franklin, right down to his handshake.

    Enjoy this one, it’s hilarious.

The real challenge is going to be not spending the rest of your Friday work day searching YouTube for more Key and Peel videos. Good luck with that.

  • Minnesota has developed their own Sports Science segment called “Gopher Physics”

Minnesota has released a few videos over the last 24 hours similar to ESPN’s Sports Science series, with College of Science and Engineering professor Dan Dahlberg taking you through how physics play out on the gridiron.

If you enjoyed those Sports Science segments, these will be right up your alley. These are full of good nuggets for both the science nerd deep down in all of us, and the coach in us.

    On the physics of punting:

  • Friday’s One Minute Warm Up

    To get the blood pumping:

-Mary Hardin-Baylor (D-III – TX) set a new NCAA record for sacks (15) last weekend against Hal Mumme’s Belhaven (D-III – MS) squad, and made an Instagram video to commemorate the occasion.

-As you’ve all heard by now, a report surfaced yesterday that Randy Edsall would not be Maryland’s head coach beyond this weekend. What you might not have seen is this tweet from him during all the speculation.

    – Olive Branch HS (MS) beat DeSoto Central HS (TX) last night in triple-OT 87-86 after DeSoto’s two-point conversion failed.

-Ohio State’s trailer for the Maryland game is worth two minutes of your time.

-Clemson offensive line coach Robbie Caldwell came to the rescue of a few Notre Dame fans after the game this past Saturday when their car broke down. The best part of the story is that the two ND fans had no idea who Caldwell was, and had to look him up on the internet when they got home.

-After last night’s game, Houston QB Greg Ward Jr. is now tied with LSU RB Leonard Fournette for the most rushing TDs on the season (11).

-Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield almost gave up football to become a….professional Halo player…?

    The best from yesterday:

Maryland will reportedly part ways with Randy Edsall after the Ohio State game

-The USA Today coaches salary database has been released.

-Every coach in America can learn from St. Xavier HS (OH) head coach Steve Specht

-Clemson uses ESPN anchors and Carrie Underwood to impress a recruit.

“When you play an aggressive defense, you better be aggressive offensively”

    On tap tonight:

-Southern Miss at Marshall – 7pm EST – CBSSN

-North Carolina State at Virginia Tech – 8pm EST – ESPN
