  • Rex Ryan’s truck is better than your truck

    RexRyanTruck

You know he has a pair of brass balls hanging from the rearview mirror. You just know he does.

Yep, this is Rex Ryan’s new truck.

Can you imagine if he coached the Florida Gators? Who else would you like to see get their truck done?

Can you imagine if Les were to try this roll up in this?

  • Wake Forest’s off season draft has something never before seen in CFB

Wake Forest is one of countless college football programs around the country that held a draft of sorts to divide the team into small groups to compete over the course of the off season…except their draft kicked off with something that’s never been seen before in college football off season drafts. I’m sure of it.

Even before the 30 second mark hits in this video, you start to sense that something just seems different about it.

Demon Deacons tight ends and special teams coach Adam Scheier, appointed the “Awakening Commissioner”, starts the event off with a poem of sorts, delivered in the “the spoken word” form. Got to be a first right?

At one point, he went on such a roll that the team acknowledges his way with words by snapping their fingers.

After Scheier is done showing everyone how it’s done, the real draft of players begins, and you’ve got love the custom logos and creative team names that each group came up with, especially the headhunters which features the Wake Forest mascot holding severed heads of the Duke and NC State mascots.

  • An Alabama HS is giving a truck away for $5. Does your school do something similar?

See this truck? It could be yours – for five bucks.

Well, not that truck exactly. This one. The tricked-out 2014 Chevrolet Silverado Z71 you see below can be had for $5 – with a 280-pound catfish-sized catch. (Kid Rock anthem sold separately.)

    truck

Thanks to a donation from Shell Chemicals, Saraland High School, a 6A school resting 10 miles north of Mobile, purchased the truck – sticker price $53,786 – with the intention of holding a nation-wide contest to raise money for the school’s extra-curricular activities.

“It’s going to be a huge fundraiser, we hope,” head coach T.J. Kelly told FootballScoop. “We’re excited to get this thing kicked off. We’re blessed to be doing something this neat and we want to make it a big deal.”

The contest runs now through Nov. 7, where a $5 donation to the program of your choice – anything from football to robotics – purchases a reservation in a raffle. The school will select to winners who will be asked to compete in a bean-bag toss on Nov. 17 to win the truck. Think of the football toss promotion Dr. Pepper runs in conference championship and bowl games every fall.

Anyone from Saraland to Seattle is welcome to purchase a ticket, but the drawing winners must come to Saraland and win the bean bag toss to claim the truck. The school hopes to raise $200,000 over the next eight months or so, which equates to 40,000 tickets. If a one-in-40,000 shot at a 50/50 chance at driving away with tricked-out $50,000 truck is worth a $5 bill to you, Saraland has the web page for you.

“This is going to be a big deal in our area and we want to make it nationwide,” Kelly said. “We hope to make a difference in a lot of students’ lives.”

  • Photos: SEC meets Mother Nature, 2015 edition

There is a certain beauty to an empty stadium picture.

The stillness provides a blank canvass, a sanctuary with an audience of echoes. Adding a blanket of snow, as Mother Nature did this week across SEC country, only adds to the picturesque portrait. Thankfully, schools across the south captured shots of their stadiums in winter hibernation.

While this year’s blizzard may not compare with the 2014 version, it’s still fun to see southern stadiums imitate Lambeau Field circa January 1967 every once in a while.

  • The Royal Caribbean cruise line has the perfect response to stranding Urban at sea

    UrbanTitleBanner

A few days ago, news broke that Urban Meyer, his wife, and 2,500 other passengers were stranded out to sea on a Royal Caribbean cruise line while doing some charity work with the Ohio State Cure for Cancer team.

Normally I’d assume that there’s no possible positive spin that can be applied to being the cruise line that’s stranded out to sea with one of college football’s hottest names on board, but if you’re the Royal Caribbean public relations department, you’ve always got an angle ready.

Something rich in college football tradition perhaps…like the Buckeye band dotting the “i”.

Someone get whoever came up with that idea a raise. Pure genius.
