  • The ball boys from Auburn and Florida State get broken down by Sports Science

Sports Science has a way of making science appealing to everyone, regardless of your interest in science as a subject in school. There is no limit to the lengths they’ll go to analyze any section of the sports we know and love.

They’ll even break down ball boys, just for the fun of it.

Here, they look at one of the famous faces of the Florida State sideline, ball boy Red Lightning, as well as the newest face of ball boy fandom, Auburn’s super-fast Blue Lightning.

It’s good to see the folks at ESPN having some fun with this and giving these guys some love. It certainly had its perks for Red Lightning last year after his 15 minutes of fame.

  • What’s your Week 4 upset pick? The FootballScoop staff weighs in

    KansasStateteam

It’s not a banner week for picking upsets. Seriously, look at the schedule and tell us what games you see going the other way (beside these three, of course). With that said, it’s a near guarantee this week will be packed with out-of-nowhere upsets and the Top 25 will look completely different by Sunday… and hopefully we have picked the right ones.

This season: Scott (1-2), Doug (1-2), Zach (1-2, Virginia over Louisville!)

    Scott: Utah over Michigan

Utah is a 4.5 point dog at Michigan. I honestly haven’t seen Utah play one play this season, but I have spoken with people who have been to Michigan games and they report that the team just doesn’t look right. The expected athleticism isn’t there and thus far they haven’t finished drives as one would expect. I wouldn’t bet the house on this one but I like Utah for the upset.

    Doug: West Virginia over Oklahoma

    west-virginia.120

During Week 1 I saw a West Virginia team take Alabama (perhaps the most talented team in the country) down to the wire, and prove to the country that they can play with anyone. That is in large part because of two of the most overlooked hires/promotions of the off season (in my opinion) with Tony Gibson being promoted from safeties coach to DC, and the hire of former Penn State DC and interim HC Tom Bradley. These Mountaineers have made significant strides from last year and will prove to be a team that is more than capable of knocking off a top 10 opponent, starting this weekend with the Sooners.

    Zach: Kansas State over Auburn

I’ll be honest: I don’t feel great about this one. I tried to talk myself into a number of other upsets, but I prefer to stay away from road ‘dogs if at all possible. This is the biggest non-conference home game in Manhattan since 1969, and it should create an all-timer of a crowd at Bill Snyder Family Stadium. In fact, it’s probably already half full right now. Meanwhile, Auburn has lost its last five non-conference road games, and hasn’t won on the road outside the SEC since beating Virginia in 1997. Sometimes you can’t escape destiny.

  • Is SMU sitting on some chrome helmets for next weekend?

    smuchrome

It’s been a rough few weeks for the SMU program. June Jones resigned during their bye week after being outscored 88-6 by North Texas and Baylor in his first two games of the year, and defensive coordinator Tom Mason got the call up to interim head coach.

Then, immediately following their bye week, they’re due to face one of the hottest offensive teams in the country in Texas A&M on Saturday.

Now would seem like as good a time as ever to unveil an all chrome helmet for the team to wear next week at home against TCU then, right? That certainly seems to be the case according to the official SMU Twitter account…

  • Take an inside look at Texas A&M’s players lounge
