2018 Changes
Following the mess at Tennessee, where the Vols initially tried to hire Greg Schiano, Urban Meyer has managed to keep his entire staff intact. There have been whispers of NFL interest in Schiano the past several weeks, and Urban Meyer noted back in mid-December that quarterbacks coach Ryan Day turned down a head coaching opportunity in the SEC this off season. Others believe that was an opportunity to further discuss the job, rather than an offer to become the head coach; but hey…

Keeping his entire coaching staff together, as well as a nice 10th assistant hire (which we get into below) is a big win for Urban after their 12-2 finish to last year.

Tenth Assistant
Urban made a splash with his 10th assistant hiring by bringing in Washington State defensive coordinator Alex Grinch, who was a Broyles Award semifinalist this past season after three seasons in Pullman. When they announced the addition of Grinch, Urban Meyer noted that his “responsibilities will be announced at a later date,” but regardless of what his official title ends up being, the hire was a nice one for the Buckeyes. A logical read of Urban’s comments were that Schiano remains very much in play for other opportunities (either this year or next). Soon enough one would expect Grinch to become defensive coordinator for the Bucks.
