2018 Changes

Shortly following the Rebels’ Egg Bowl win over Mississippi State, AD Ross Bjork announced a move many Rebels were hoping would happen…Matt Luke will stay on as the head football coach of the Ole Miss Rebels.

A number of programs reached out to check on the availability of offensive coordinator Phil Longo this off-season; but thus far he has not been swayed to leave Oxford.

Jimbo Fisher brought Texas A&M’s checkbook to see Bradley Dale Peveto and took the former LSU assistant back down South. Troy’s assistant head coach Jon Sumrall will replace him, per sources, though we don’t expect that to be official until early next week.

Off the field, the Rebels are going big. Although neither deal is in place (IAWP issues), word in the profession is that Luke is holding positions for both Austin Thomas and Tyler Siskey. Thomas, the former LSU director of player personnel and then general manager, was initially headed to Tennessee but he never signed the contract and then hit the market. Siskey, who formerly coordinated recruiting under Hugh Freeze at Ole Miss, went on to serve as director of player personnel for Nick Saban at Alabama and then spent several years as receivers coach / recruiting coordinator at South Alabama with Joey Jones. Both Thomas & Siskey are former FootballScoop Directors of Player Personnel of the Year. Landing either, or both as is expected, would be a huge boost to the Rebels’ long-term success.

Tenth Assistant

Luke hired Oregon corners coach Charles Clark to assist with the secondary. Clark, a four year letterman and three year starting safety at Ole Miss, was recognized as FootballScoop’s Defensive Backs Coach of the Year in 2016 while at Colorado.
