ESPN is scrapping the Coaches Film Room segment for the national title game (ESPN)

One of the highlights of the college football playoff for many coaches has been the coaches film room.

According to a report this morning, ESPN has decided to scrap the segment and bring in a bunch of other TV personalities for a "MNF Film Room."

Coaches that enjoyed seeing coaches like Herm Edwards, Mack Brown, Paul Johnson, Mike Norvell, Steve Addazio, Gary Patterson, Dave Clawson, and others showing their off-the-field personality during the semifinal games the past two seasons will be disappointed by this news.

It was great hearing them all weigh in on schemes, personnel, decision making, catch phrases, and just good ole coaching camaraderie that took place. Plus, for the guys that played against the teams during the regular season, they were able to provide some great insight on tendencies and adjustments, while most analysts are constantly using the wrong terminology regarding RPOs and mistaking "end arounds" with "jet sweeps." Hopefully Jason Witten will be able to bring some good football knowledge to the conversation.

When ESPN first announced the coaching lineup for the semifinal games, I made a suggestion:

"What would make things even more interesting is if coaches / viewers were able to vote on which coaches they wanted to return to do the Film Room segment for the national title game. That could be fun."

Sadly, looks like that's not gonna happen. Major bummer.
