Everett Withers to be head coach at Texas State (Top)

Everett Withers has accepted the head coaching position at Texas State, sources told FootballScoop Wednesday evening.

Withers is currently the head coach at James Madison, where he is 19-7 in two seasons. He also posted a 7-6 mark in one season as North Carolina's interim head coach in 2011.

The Dukes boasted one of FCS's most potent offenses this fall, ranking third in the country with 528.8 yards per game and 6.64 yards per play while placing seventh in rushing offense and fifth in passing efficiency. Their 44.3 scoring average trailed only Prairie View A&M for the most in FCS.

A North Carolina native, Withers served as an assistant on Mack Brown's original staff at Texas from 1998-00.

Withers replaces Dennis Franchione, who stepped down Dec. 22 after a 3-9 season. The Bobcats' program is in its 111th year of existence but only fourth in FBS. Franchione guided Texas State from FCS to the WAC and later Sun Belt, where he crested with a 7-5 mark (5-3 SBC) in 2014 before this season's slide.
