Southern Oregon is a nationally regarded top-notch NAIA program that brought home the national title in 2014 and made a trip to the title game in 2015 before losing to Marian (IN).
One of their annual off season workouts is called the Valentines Day Massacre, and this year that included a surprise workout out to "the middle of nowhere" . Before boarding the bus, offensive coordinator Ken Fasnacht told players to take some time to get their mind right, because not everyone was going to make it through this unique workout that was designed to extract national championship effort from their players.
Players end up at a facility where they're tested with a firefighter workout that takes them to the edge of their physical and mental capabilities, testing each of them thoroughly. The entire workout was also a competition, with a winner announced at the end.
This off season, the SOU players were forced to face adversity through the loss of head coach Craig Howard in late January.
Players embraced, and fought through the chaos and adversity, and you can see their passion and focus on championship effort and working together in the video. Take a look.
SOU recently named Ashland HS (OR) head coach Charlie Hall the program's new head coach.
