FootballScoop is proud to announce that Marshall Malchow is the 2017 FootballScoop Player Personnel Director of the Year presented by AstroTurf as selected by prior winners.
After years hovering near the top, Georgia finally broke through with an SEC championship and a national title game appearance in 2017. That type of ascension would not be possible without a top-notch recruiting operations.
Malchow was among Kirby Smart first hires as Georgia's head coach, and he immediately got to work transforming the Bulldogs' roster. Georgia's 2016 class finished sixth nationally in the 247Sports Composite rankings, then boosted to No. 3 in 2017, Smart's first full class on campus.
This year's class ranks second nationally at press time, with a national-best six five star pledges among Georgia's 22 commitments or signees. Georgia has also secured a dozen 4-star pledges, meaning an incredible 82 percent of Georgia's 2018 class is composed of blue-chip recruits. Included in this year's class is 5-star quarterback Justin Fields, the consensus No. 2 player in the country, whom Smart and his staff lured despite starting another 5-star recruit in true freshman Jake Fromm in 2017.
"This is a very well-deserved recognition for Marshall and congratulations
are in order from all who work with him in the football office," Smart said. "He's been a valuable member of our team since we came to UGA and has been instrumental in not only the successes we have enjoyed but also in those we are still striving to achieve every day."
An Augusta, Ga., native, Malchow attended Alabama, where he worked in the player personnel department as a recruiting specialist. His first full-time job came as director of on-campus recruiting at Louisville, and then in 2012 he was named assistant director of player personnel at Boise State. Malchow followed Chris Petersen to Washington, where he started as director of player personnel in 2014, and in 2015 was promoted to oversee the Huskies' entire recruiting operation. He was one of Smart's first hires at Georgia, joining the Bulldogs in January of 2016.

Previous winners of the Player Personnel Director of the Year award are Tyler Siskey (Alabama, 2013), Mark Pantoni (Ohio State, 2014), Austin Thomas (LSU, 2015) and Jody Wright (Alabama, 2016).
