New Rutgers head coach Chris Ash explains the key factor to the success of first-year head coaches (Rutgers)

Chris Ash has sent a clear message to his players that things around the program will certainly be changing, starting with the off season workout program.

But before the culture starts to change in Piscataway, Ash touched on a few other elements vital to a first-year head coaches success in an interview with NJ Advance Media.

Ash, who has been busy preparing Ohio State for their January 1 match up with Notre Dame on top of recruiting on behalf of Rutgers, will be back at Rutgers today looking to connect with some of his new players.

"That's part of a new coaching job. Every new coach in the country is going through the same process, and the ones that can get that connection faster will be the ones that have the chance for success sooner."

It's the same outlook that Ash's Ohio State coaching buddy Tom Herman took with him to Houston.

"His ability and his staff's ability to build a connection with those players in that program and get them to buy into the way they're going to do business allowed them to have success a lot faster. It's going to be no different for us at Rutgers."
