Joe Tanis, the head coach at Orchard View HS (Muskegon, MI), was glued to the TV just like thousands of other coaches and fans around the country when former Giants, Jets, Cowboys and Patriots head coach Bill Parcells took the podium at his Hall of Fame induction speech in 2013.
Tanis was tasked with rebuilding over an Orchard View program back in 2012, and while the program had seen better days, they were still less than a decade removed from an undefeated season and state title. In the year prior to his arrival, the Cardinals won just one game. In his first two seasons, Tanis won two games each before helping the program improve drastically, just a game away from automatically qualifying for the playoffs, with a five win season in 2014.
But back to that Hall of Fame induction speech by coaching legend Bill Parcells; Tanis, always looking for motivational material to help turn the corner in their rebuilding process, heard Parcels say something during his speech that immediately struck a chord with him.
As you can see, that quote has since made it's way onto the walls of the locker room so that players see it on a daily basis.
Something tells me that coaches around the country will be taking note this, and will be decorating their locker rooms or weight rooms similarly.
Relive that portion of Parcell's speech speech below to hear where the quote came from.
Update: We understand that the particular sign pictured is from another facility, but coach Tanis is having one made to put up at Orchard View because he liked it so much.
