Photos: The 49ers have alternate uniforms for the first time ever (Featured)

Judging by a few grainy pictures that started to make their way around Twitter this afternoon, the 49ers and new head coach Jim Tomsula have a new set of black alternate uniforms.

The official pictures will be released later today.

The new additions are feature black jerseys and pants, with red numbers, a gold Nike swoosh on the sleeve, and the classic 49ers red and white socks.

This is actually a pretty big deal, because the 49ers have never wore an alternate uniform in the history of the franchise. They have worn throwback uniforms, but never alternates like these designed to be worn a few times throughout the season. Per NFL rules, these alternates are allowed to be worn twice during the course of the regular season.

Personally, if you're going to add alternates, you might as well go all out with the black - and that includes the helmet.

Here's how they look in the wild. Notice how the black, red and gold flow together so perfectly. (The previous sentence was written in sarcasm font.)
