Sources told FootballScoop Wednesday John L. Smith will be the new head coach at Kentucky State.
Kentucky State is an HBCU Division II school of a little more than 2,000 students located in the Bluegrass State capital of Frankfort. We understand Smith’s children live in nearby Louisville.
The school has struggled with budget issues lately, dropping a quarter of its student body at the beginning of the 2014-15 academic year and undergoing budget cuts in staff reductions both last November and again in May.
The Thorobreds went 3-7 in 2015.
Kentucky State represents Smith’s eighth head coaching job dating back to Idaho in 1989. From there, Smith led programs at Utah State (1995-97), Louisville (1998-02), Michigan State (2003-06), Weber State (for a brief spell in 2012), Arkansas (a disastrous 2012 season that inspired the gif blessing this article) and, since 2013, Fort Lewis College in Colorado. He went 7-15 in his two seasons at Fort Lewis and stands at 143-109 for his career.
One last time:
