Source tells FootballScoop Arizona (and search firm DHR) are negotiating a potential deal with Navy head coach Ken Niumatalolo to become new head coach at Arizona.
Source tells FootballScoop former Arizona head coach Dick Tomey initially suggested Kenny; and DHR listened; but also had a number of other candidates they wanted Arizona to vet as well.
This morning, one source told FootballScoop "Unless they mess this up, Kenny is going to Arizona." However, before you assume the ink should be dry soon; remember that Niumatalolo and BYU went for a long walk down this path two years ago only to see Niumatalolo ultimately decide that move wasn't in the best interest of his family and career. Further, this wouldn't be the first time a DHR search (this year & others) has changed course after being deep in negotiations with a candidate.
In 10 seasons as head coach at Navy Niumatalolo is 84-48, twice winning conference coach of the year.
Should Kenny wind up getting the position; most in the profession believe offensive coordinator Ivin Jasper would be a very strong candidate to take his place as head coach at Navy.
