Sources with direct knowledge tell FootballScoop former Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze will be the new head coach at Liberty.

As soon as Turner Gill announced his retirement, speculation immediately began that Hugh Freeze would be the choice to succeed Gill. Freeze has a well established connection with the University and its leadership.

In January Freeze gave his first public talk there.

Source, that day, told FootballScoop Freeze was a strong candidate and the deal could happen quickly.

For those unfamiliar, a look at Liberty’s facilities:

We’ll keep you posted as more comes together about Hugh’s staff.

Freeze, who is one of the only head coaches in college football to beat a Nick Saban coached Alabama team more than once, went 39-25 at Ole Miss, including a ten-win season in 2015. Freeze also previously spent time as the head coach Lambuth, where he went 20-5 in two seasons, and one season at Arkansas State where he went 10-2.
