Reports: Tyson Helton new head coach at Western Kentucky (Featured)

Monday AM Update> ESPN's Chris Low is reporting that the deal is done.

Sunday evening article:

The Western Kentucky job has been on the market for less than a day, and already the search is taking shape. Sources told FootballScoop Sunday that Tennessee offensive coordinator Tyson Helton is a strong candidate to be the Hilltoppers' next head coach.

Helton recently completed his first season as the offensive coordinator at Tennessee. Prior to that, he was the quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator on his brother Clay Helton's staff at USC from 2016-17.

But prior to that, Helton was the offensive coordinator at Western Kentucky in 2014-15 under Jeff Brohm, helping the Hilltoppers go 20-7 with a Conference USA title and an AP Top 25 finish in 2015.

Western Kentucky fired Mike Sanford earlier Sunday after he posted a 9-16 mark in two seasons.

As always, stay tuned to The Scoop from the latest.
