Sources: Adam Dorrel will be new Abilene Christian head coach (Featured)

After winning his third Division II National Championship in four seasons, sources tell FootballScoop Adam Dorrel plans to step up a level in competition to FCS and will accept the head job at Abilene Christian.

Dorrel's Northwest Missouri Bearcats won the 2013, 2015 and 2016 National Championships, losing only one regular season game and one playoff game over the course of those four seasons. The Bearcats beat North Alabama 29-3 Saturday on a beautifully snow covered field in Kansas City, securing Dorrel's third Championship. A former offensive lineman at Northwest, Dorrel was a three-time captain as a player. After coaching a few seasons at Dakota State and William Jewell, he returned to Northwest for the 2004 season, ascending to head coach before the 2011 season. Dorrel will finish his time at Northwest at 76-8 overall and 55-2 since 2013.

Abilene Christian, long a very competitive Lone Star program in Division II, stepped up to FCS for the 2013 season and has experienced some growing pains, winning 6 games each of their first two seasons; but only combining to win 5 total the past two years.

It is our understanding the Abilene Christian is expected to formally announce the hire on Monday.
