Sources tell FootballScoop that, barring any unforeseen circumstances, New Mexico offensive coordinator Calvin Magee is expected to join the Ole Miss staff.
Matt Luke recently announced the addition of Rich Rodriguez as his offensive coordinator, and the addition of Magee brings in someone that Rich Rod has a long history with.
Before landing at New Mexico, Magee and Rodriguez had been together for 12 of the past thirteen seasons, with Magee serving as the offensive coordinator on Rich's staffs at Arizona, Michigan and West Virginia. The one season they were not together, Magee was the offensive coordinator at Pitt while Rodriguez spent a year out of coaching before landing the Arizona job.
At Arizona, Magee served as Rich Rod's right hand man, holding the title of co-offensive coordinator / associate head coach and running backs coach for six seasons in Tucson.
Prior to catching on to one of Rich Rod's staffs, Magee spent time coaching the tight ends and running backs at South Florida before adding the run game coordinator title in 1999. He joined the West Virginia staff under Rich Rod in 2001 and added offensive coordinator duties in 2005.
This hire will have to go through all the proper channels, so nothing official is expected is expected tonight.
