The Texas Tribune is an independent news publication covering politics and public policy. On the surface, this has nothing to do with college football, but in Texas the wall between college football and politics is as thin as tissue paper.
The Tribune held a public interview with Texas A&M chancellor John Sharp in which the conversation inevitably turned to Aggie football and Kevin Sumlin. As you'll hear below, Sharp is asked if he's still steamed about the UCLA loss, which Sharp answers with a flat, terse, "Yep."
And then in the money quote Sharp is asked if Sumlin's job is safe. His answer: "I'm not the athletic director."
"Is Kevin Sumlin's job safe?"
John Sharp, TAMU chancellor: "I'm not the athletic director." #gigem#TAMUpic.twitter.com/ElmLtKzBoE— Texas Tribune (@TexasTribune) September 29, 2017
Sharp is correct. He is not the A&M athletics director, he's the head of the entire Texas A&M system. He's the AD's boss's boss.
The A&M chancellor says a lot by saying a little here.
