Tom Herman to Texas is happening (Featured)

The writing went on the wall with LSU hiring Ed Orgeron and Texas officially firing Charlie Strong, but it appears Tom Herman is on his way to Austin.

ESPN's Heather Dinich reports the deal is done with announcement expected at some point on Saturday. FootballScoop confirmed the move shortly thereafter.

The school has now announced the hire.

As we've reported all along, Herman-to-Texas has been a move years in the making. Put simply, Herman didn't build his staff at Houston to later land the LSU job. Herman's staff at Houston was populated with former Texas assistant and Longhorns quarterback Major Applewhite as his offensive coordinator; former Texas defensive end and longtime Mack Brown assistant Oscar Giles as his assistant head coach and defensive line coach; and former Texas assistant Darrell Wyatt as his recruiting coordinator and wide receivers coach. Corby Meekins, a longtime Houston-area high school coach, also served as Herman's tight ends coach. How many of them follow Herman up Highway 290 remains to be seen, but the Texas job is the one Herman has pined for all along.

Both sides will look to get this done as fast as possible, so we'll update this post as news develops. As always, stay tuned to The Scoop for the latest.
