The mere appointment of Tom Herman as the new head coach at Texas Back in late November of last year prompted a healthy amount of folks to proclaim that the Longhorns were officially "back".
However, their first game of the season, a 51-41 loss to DJ Durkin's Maryland squad on Saturday, proved that there is plenty of work left to do.
After 9 month on campus, with Herman and his staff focused on changing the culture in Austin, he explained after the game how he was proud of a number of things from his guys (like the energy, enthusiasm, and their body language), but it was going to take more than sprinkling some magic "fairy dust" to get things truly turned around.
"I told our guys to never get used to this feeling, but that if we all thought that we were going to come in here and, in nine months, sprinkle some fairy dust on this team and think that we've arrived, than we're wrong."
"The only way we know how to fix things, is to work harder."
