We knew UCF’s 2017 national championship campaign was real when AD Danny White agreed to pay national championship bonuses to coaches now working for Nebraska, but it became really real on Saturday. The Knights’ held their spring game, and went through with the coronation for their 2017 AAC, Peach Bowl and, uh, national champions.

The Knights also put a 2017 National Champions banner on the Spectrum Stadium facade.

UCF’s claim to the 2017 national title runs through Auburn. The Knights beat Auburn in the Peach Bowl and Auburn, of course, was the only team to be Actual National Champion Alabama in 2017.

The irony here is that Alabama opens its 2018 season in Orlando, across town from Spectrum Stadium against Louisville at Camping World Stadium. Considering the Tide are 4-touchdown favorites against the Lamar Jackson-less Cardinals, it’s a shame Alabama can’t just swap out Louisville for UCF and we can settle this issue once and for all.
