Source tells FootballScoop App State director of athletics Doug Gillin is moving briskly on his search for the next head coach at App State. Source tells FootballScoop Gillin could possibly make his decision as early as this weekend.
Sources tell FootballScoop Gillin has interviewed multiple candidates and has more scheduled. Interest in the position has been substantial.
At this time, sources tell FootballScoop, NC State offensive line coach Dwayne Ledford is a legit candidate for the job. Western Carolina head coach Mark Speir has interviewed, as has interim head coach Mark Ivey. Each of these three have significant coaching experience at App and Ivey played in Boone as well.
In addition to these three, sources tell FootballScoop a number of coordinators, predominantly on the offensive side of the ball and from or familiar with the region, have sought interviews. Additionally, a number of experienced head coaches have called in as well. Auburn running backs coach Tim Horton, who previously coached at App State, has been mentioned as a candidate by many.
Gillin has a number of excellent options to carry the program forward. We'll keep you updated as more becomes clear.
