College football is the most American sport there is, and the season’s first day will conclude in the most American of locales — Sydney, Australia.

Rice and Stanford will meet at Sydney’s Allianz Stadium at 9 p.m. Eastern time on Saturday night and 11 a.m. Sunday morning local time. The Owls have already arrived in Australia, which requires the logistical challenge of sending a small army more than 8,500 miles away — and then, of course, shipping it all back to begin the regular part of the regular season.

The most interesting part of the video Rice produced chronicling the Houston-to-Sydney trip came in the 15-hour flight from Los Angeles to Australia, where the Owls’ strength staff woke players up in the middle of the night so they could go lunges down the aisles of the airplane.
