Chip Kelly busy sending care packages

Chip Kelly has made a habit of sending former players surprise care packages filled with Oregon gear throughout the season.

"A few weeks ago I got an Oregon sweatshirt with my college number on it. Just a 'Thank you,' for what we've done for the program and how we carry ourselves in the league." linebacker Spencer Paysinger said of the care packages.

He admits that when he wears his Duck gear around the locker room his teammates joke that "Uncle Phil (Knight)" must have sent the gear over.

This weekend, each NFL playoff team has at least one former Duck on the roster...and you can bet they're getting a care package. Nice move by Chip and the staff.

Wisconsin's new offensive coordinator

New Wisconsin offensive coordinator Matt Canada met with the media last night to field some questions.

Canada compares the job at Northern Illinois to the job that Barry Alvarez began with at Wisconsin in terms of the players that they had on the roster and where they were able to recruit.

When asked about his offensive philosophy, Canada kept it simple saying "score points". Can't get much simpler than that.

Both Wisconsin and Northern Illinois were among five teams to average at least 230 yards per game rushing and passing last season.

Mouthwash for LSU

That championship game had to have left a bad taste...

So Les had his guys create a little video to get his guys looking forward to the 2012 season.

Video: Meet PSU assistant Stan Hixon

PSUsports.com sat down with assistant head coach / wide receivers coach Stan Hixon yesterday to see how things have been going since his recent arrival on campus in Happy Valley.

Hixon talks about his first conversations with head coach Bill O'Brien, as well as an update on how things have been on campus since their arrival.

Vintage head ball coach

We hear Coach Spurrier is recovering well from his knee replacement surgery and this video proves it...also proves ain't nothing wrong with his mind either.

The first 3 minutes of this video are vintage stuff. Head ball coach can work the crowd.

His stories about the Nebraska bowl game are great...and yes, South Carolina won that one.

Osborne: "It's time to honor Solich"

Steven M. Sipple, who covers Nebraska football for "Husker Extra" website, recently asked Tom Osborne if there were any plans in the works to honor former head coach Frank Solich.

Osborne responded, "I talked to Frank about that (Friday) morning, and would really like to do that, the big problem has been finding the right time to do it. But we're trying to find a time when we might be able to do something like that."

Solich has been pretty busy at Ohio competing for MAC championships recently, but Osborne is convinced that time has come to recognize Solich, who is the type of coach who likes to stay out of the limelight.

"I think he needs to be recognized here, if you look at that six-year period when he was a coach here, golly, they went to two BCS bowls, played for a national championship, won the Big 12 championship, and won 75 percent of his games. That's difficult to do."

When asked what Solich thought of the idea Osborne responded "He didn't say no".

Changes start in the weight room for ASU

If you were to walk into the weight room at Arizona State today, you'd find the team dressed uniformly in black shorts, white socks and grey shirts.

"It's about being on the same page. When we're in here, we're going to look like a team" strength coach Shawn Griswold said.

Griswold hasn't even been on campus for a week and is already planning some upgrades to the weight room...the same one that was considered state of the art in a 2002 article in Sports Illustrated.

Graham and Griswold also plan to institute some new traditions, including a 70 pound rock that will serve as the teams touchstone that will be placed in the locker room for games, and will travel with the team as well.

"You have to inspire today's kids, or they're gone. They hit the reset button, like a Madden game" Griswold said.

Urban introduces family and coaching staff

Urban introduced his family and coaching staff to the Ohio State basketball crowd during last night's game.

Luke Fickell got the biggest ovation of the staff by far, and you can tell from the fan reaction that they are very excited to have him back on the sidelines wearing scarlet and grey in the fall.
