Northwestern: The Northwestern University Football Sports Performance department is currently accepting internship applications for the 2018 Winter Quarter. The goal of our internship program is to develop young professionals by providing experience in Olympic lifting, traditional strength exercises, corrective exercises, warm-up protocols, recovery methods, program methodology and design, and nutrition. An open mind to various training paradigms and thought processes is a must. Interns will also gain experience with ordering and distribution of nutritional products, staff meetings, continuing education and facility maintenance. Interns will participate in active learning by participating in a work-out and then ‘coached up’. All internships are unpaid. Qualifications We seek highly motivated individuals who are interested in pursuing a career as a sports performance coach in a collegiate or alternate setting. Candidates should be personable, self-motivated, possess a team oriented mindset and professional demeanor. Must be able to demonstrate initiative. Ability to teach diverse group of student-athletes and communicate effectively one-to-one, in small groups and in public speaking contexts. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs preferred. Facility hours vary based on individual and team schedules therefore interns may be asked to arrive early or stay late. UTSA: The University of Texas at San Antonio is currently accepting applications for Spring 2018 volunteer internship positions. Qualified candidates would work with the Football Strength and Conditioning Department. This is an unpaid position that is responsible for assisting the UTSA Strength and Conditioning staff with the implementation of the Football Spring program, set up and break down of all workouts, maintenance and upkeep of the weight room and facility, and hands on experience training collegiate athletes. Required qualifications include completion or current pursuit of an undergraduate degree in exercise science or a related course of study, a desire to become a strength and conditioning professional, and possess a strong work ethic. Other preferred qualifications include certification from an accredited organization, previous coaching experience, personal involvement in a collegiate competitive sport, and proficiency in teaching and performing Olympic movements. There is no monetary compensation so if this position is not an economically feasible option for you, please do not apply. Fresno State: Fresno State University is accepting applications for VOLUNTEER intern coaches to contribute to the Program. Qualified candidates will work with Olympic Sports, as well as have the opportunity to assist in all training sessions in compliance with NCAA rules. This is an UNPAID opportunity that provides experience assisting the staff with the implementation of individualized, comprehensive, sport-specific injury prevention and performance enhancement programs. Potential candidates must possess an enthusiastic spirit, strong character, a desire to become a strength and conditioning professional and demonstrate effective organization and communication skills. Required qualifications include current CPR/ AED certification, as well as achievement or current pursuit of a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science or related course of study and CSCS or SCCC certification. This internship is expected to begin no later than Monday, January 8th 2018, and end no later than Friday, May 18th 2018. During this time period, interns will receive experience working at the Division 1 level, have the potential to earn recommendations for future career opportunities and receive college credit if applicable. Christopher Newport: Christopher Newport University is seeking highly motivated strength and conditioning interns for the spring 2018 semester. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting with the implementation of sport specific programs that incorporate injury prevention, mobility, flexibility, and strength and speed exercises. This is an UNPAID position, school appropriate apparel will be provided. Academic credits can be applied towards an Exercise Science or related Undergraduate or Graduate program. Interns will have every opportunity to grow as a strength coach by learning proper progressions, continuing education through research and hands on coaching. Qualifications: hard work ethic, attention to detail, high energy, Bachelor’s degree or in progress of obtaining a Bachelor’s degree, have or looking to obtain a certification (CSCS, SCCC and USAW).
