Southern Miss: The University of Southern Mississippi is currently accepting applications for Spring 2017 volunteer strength and conditioning internship positions. Qualified candidates would work with multiple sports including all duties associated with Football Strength and Conditioning. This is an unpaid position that could apply to school credit and is responsible for assisting the USM Strength Staff with the implementation of all aspects of the Football Spring Program among other sports. Duties include setup and break down of all workouts, maintenance and upkeep of the weight room, and hands on experience training collegiate athletes. Applicants must be in pursuit of or have obtained an undergraduate degree in exercise science or a related field, a desire to become a strength and conditioning professional, and a strong work ethic. Preferred qualifications include a certification from an accredited organization, previous coaching experience, experience within a collegiate competitive sport, and proficiency in teaching all movements involved in various forms of strength training. UMBC: University of Maryland-Baltimore County (UMBC) is currently accepting applications for Strength and Conditioning Interns. This is an UNPAID position. This internship program will educate and develop aspiring strength and conditioning coaches and will provide the opportunity to work with Division 1 athletes from each of the University’s 15 varsity teams. Focus will center on learning training and programming techniques for Olympic, compound and assistance lifts, as well as conditioning related aspects of training. These include acceleration, agility, multi planar movement, and dynamic warmup/recovery. The goal of this program is to develop highly skilled coaches who will find employment at the Division 1 or professional level. Applicants must be enrolled in exercise science or related field OR possess a degree in an exercise science related field, be CPR/AED/First Aid certified, must possess or be working toward NSCA CSCS certification (mandatory) and USAW Level 1 (optional-preferred). Starting date is January 30, 2017 and end date is May 16, 2017. Stevenson: Stevenson University in Owings Mills, MD is looking to fill 1-2 VOLUNTEER INTERN positions, no monetary compensation will be provided. Candidates can use this experience working towards class credit at their respective university or to gain further hands on training in the field of collegiate strength and conditioning. The position will require no more than 20 hours a week. The Internship is set to begin January 9 and carry on as long as the end of the Spring Semester. The accepted applicants will gain experience working at the Division III collegiate level specifically with football, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s lacrosse, and our other varsity teams. Position responsibilities will consist of, but are not limited to, the following: setting up and breaking down of equipment for training sessions, running training sessions and programming for teams (if they’re certified) assisting with routine maintenance of training facilities, and participation in projects and assignments throughout the duration of the Internship. Applicants must be certified or working toward certification with the CSCCa (SCCC) or the NSCA (CSCS) and have current CPR/AED certification. The candidate must possess strong communication skills, motivational skills, and must have a strong desire to become a strength and conditioning professional at the collegiate or professional level. Gallaudet (D-III – Washington, DC): Under administrative direction of the Gallaudet University Head Strength and Conditioning Coach, Gallaudet University is seeking a well-qualified intern for the 2017 spring semester. Gallaudet University is the premier institute of higher learning for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. The successful applicants will gain hands-on experience working with all 14 NCAA Division III varsity sports. It is the goal of Gallaudet University staff to provide interns with a well-rounded experience incorporating all facets of strength and conditioning. Interns who are entering into the internship program will assist the strength coaches with all sports and implement the strength, power, speed, agility, conditioning, movement assessment, and corrective exercise programs. In addition, interns will be taught the fundamentals of yearly planning and program design. An emphasis will be placed upon the professional development of each intern in an effort to ready them for a career as a collegiate strength and conditioning coach. JOB REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have or be working towards the completion of a degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physical Education or another related field. Interns with either collegiate athletic or coaching experience are preferred but not required. A strong work ethic and willingness to work extended hours are a must. In order to apply each candidate must be First Aid and CPR/AED certified and either working towards or already certified strength coach. Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) is preferred.
