    Virginia Union: Virginia Union University is in need of volunteer interns to assist with the Strength and Conditioning Program. The duration of the position will start on January 12th and it will go until next spring. Responsibilities include the set up/break down of lifts, maintenance of the training facility and assisting with the implementation of performance training for D-2 athletes. Applicants MUST have time-management/communication skills, and ambition. There is no monetary compensation for the position, however, this is a unique internship where qualified applicants will have an opportunity to coach and have an impact on student athletes. Applicants will also be trained and properly prepared for working towards becoming a certified Strength and Conditioning coach.     Vanderbilt: Vandy has now announced the hiring of James Dobson as their new strength director. Dobson joins the program after serving as the head strength coach at Nebraska for the past seven seasons.

    Georgia: Sources tell us that Mark Hocke, an assistant strength coach at Alabama, is being hired as the head strength coach at Georgia. Update > Mark Richt has announced the hire and stated that Hocke’s official title will be director of strength and conditioning.

    Rice: The Department of Strength and Conditioning for Athletics at Rice University is accepting applications and resumes for Volunteer Strength and Conditioning Interns for Olympic Sports. These positions will begin immediately for the Spring, Summer and Fall Semesters of 2015. These are unpaid Internships. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS. Bachelor’s degree or seeking hourly or formal internship requirements for the completion of an undergraduate or master’s degree. A strong desire to not only pursue Strength and Conditioning Coaching as a career, but to also obtain Strength and Conditioning Coaching Certifications either from the C.S.C.C.A. or the N.S.C.A.     Vanderbilt: Former Nebraska strength coach James Dobson has been offered the head strength position at Vanderbilt pending formal clearances per sources. Jesse Johnson first reported the news this evening.

    Elon: Elon University Strength and Conditioning is looking for qualified strength and conditioning interns for the Spring 2015 semester. The internship will begin February 2nd and run through May 12th. Responsibilities include: assisting with the supervision and training of Elon University’s 16 Division I intercollegiate athletic programs, assisting with daily administrative and maintenance duties. This is an unpaid internship. However, candidates will receive Division I Intercollegiate experience, college credit towards graduation if applicable and be involved in the CSCCa mentorship program necessary to achieve the SCCC certification. Preferred qualifications: Pursuing Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in exercise physiology or related field; NSCA-CSCS or USAW certifications; CPR certification. Experience in a Strength and Conditioning Program or have previous collegiate athletics experience is preferred. Having a background in performing and coaching Olympic lifts is preferred.
