Former Tennessee State head coach Bill Thomas passed away today at the age of 70. Please keep Coach Thomas’ family in your prayers.
Missouri: Source tells FootballScoop Barry Odom has promoted Brittany Boehm from assistant director of football operations to director of football operations. This past season was her first as assistant after spending two years as director of operations for Missouri Soccer.
Florida: Source tells FootballScoop Dan Mullen is strongly considering Chris Wilson for his open defensive line position. Wilson coached defensive line for the Philadelphia Eagles the past few seasons; but his contract was not renewed sources told FootballScoop. Wilson previously served as Mullen’s defensive coordinator & defensive line coach at Mississippi State before leaving for the defensive line job at Georgia in 2013. He then went to coach at USC for two seasons before joining the Eagles staff for the 2016 season.
Dick Tomey: Coach Tomey, 80, is undergoing treatment for lung cancer at MD Anderson in Houston. Please keep Coach in your prayers as he fights through this.
Trent Dilfer: TD has now officially been named head coach of Lipscomb Academy (Nashville, TN).
Coastal Carolina: Joe Moglia is stepping down as Coastal’s head coach and Jamey Chadwell has been tapped as his replacement, sources told FootballScoop. Details here.
Wisconsin: Paul Chryst has been extended through the 2023 season. He is 42-12 in four seasons with the Badgers.
Dallas Cowboys: The early candidate to replace Scott Linehan as the Cowboys’ offensive coordinator is reportedly… Doug Nussmeier.
Arkansas State: A-State has announced the hirings of defensive coordinator David Duggan, defensive ends coach Brandon Joiner and running backs coach Rashad Jackson.
Iowa State: As we reported was in the works, Matt Campbell has now announced Tom Manning will return as offensive coordinator and Matt Caponi will join the staff working with the defensive backs. Nate Scheelhaase is moving to receivers and Bryan Gasser’s contract is not being renewed. Quarterbacks coach Joel Gordon “has been promoted to passing game coordinator” and special teams coach Joe Houston is moving off the field.
Indiana: Source tells FootballScoop Fresno State offensive coordinator Kalen DeBoer will be Indiana’s new offensive coordinator. More on the move here.
Arkansas-Monticello (D-II): Arkansas Monticello has promoted offensive line coach Marcus Hill to assistant head coach. Hill played at UAM and has been on the staff since 2011. He previously served as the TE coach at Jackson State.
Houston: The Coogs have formally announced the hirings of Joe Cauthen (defensive coordinator/linebackers) and Brian Early (defensive line). Both were at Arkansas State most recently.
Augustana College (D-III – IL): Augustana College is looking for a home-and-home in 2020-21. The dates would be Sept. 5 or 12, 2020 and Sept. 4 or 11, 2021. The 2020 game would be at Augustana. Contact [email protected] if interested.
Troy: Auburn grad assistant Cole Weeks is reportedly joining the Troy staff. Weeks played quarterback at Southern Miss when Chip Lindsey was there as offensive coordinator.
Cleveland Browns: The Browns have now announced the following hires: Joe Whitt defensive backs, Al Holcomb linebackers, Chris Jones senior defensive assistant, Tosh Lupoi defensive line, John Parrella assistant defensive line, John Lilly tight ends and Jeff Blasko assistant offensive line. Adam Henry and DeWayne Walker are being retained.
Carolina Panthers: The Panthers have hired Jim Hostler as receivers coach. Hostler served as passing game coordinator for the Packers last season.
Ohio State: Urban Meyer will receive a $100,000 salary in his new role as assistant AD for athletics initiatives and relations.
Dallas Cowboys: Scott Linehan will not return as offensive coordinator, the team has announced. Quarterbacks coach Kellen Moore will return, though, tweets Calvin Watkins of The Athletic.
Alabama: Florida defensive line coach Sal Sunseri is expected to join Nick Saban’s staff in a full-time capacity, sources told FootballScoop. The move could become official as early as today. Sunseri’s son Vinnie recently returned to Alabama as a support staff member.
Alabama: Former Rutgers head coach Kyle Flood will be the new offensive line coach at Alabama Ian Fitzsimmons has tweeted.
Iowa State: Tom Manning is leaving the Colts to return to Iowa State as offensive coordinator, source tells FootballScoop. Other details on how the rest of the staff will shake out here. Also, source tells FootballScoop West Virginia safeties coach Matt Caponi will be joining the staff as well.
Trent Dilfer: The former NFL quarterback and ESPN analyst is set to become the head coach at Lipscomb Academy in Nashville, according to Brent Dougherty of 104.5 The Zone in Nashville.
Phoenix Hotshots (AAF): Source tells FootballScoop head coach Rick Neuheisel has brought Chris Scelfo on board in a consulting role. Scelfo coached offensive line at Charlotte this past season and at Houston before that. He spent 2008-14 with the Atlanta Falcons and served as Tulane’s head coach for nine seasons prior to that.
Green Bay: The Packers are reportedly interested in hiring Mississippi State offensive coordinator Luke Getsy. Getsy spent 2014-17 with the Packers, working his way up to receivers coach. We can confirm the interest. Will update once more is clear.
South Carolina: Sources tell FootballScoop Will Muschamp has spoken with a number of potential candidates about his open defensive line position. We hear Arkansas defensive line coach John Scott Jr. is a possibility; however, we don’t believe a deal is currently in place. Scott played at Western Carolina and subsequently coached there three seasons. He has also coached defensive line at Missouri State, Georgia Southern, Texas Tech and with the New York Jets. He has been on Arkansas’ staff the past two seasons. Will update as things become more clear.
Buffalo Bills: Heath Farwell has joined the staff as special teams coordinator.
Texas State: Source tells FootballScoop Texas State is hiring former Texas Tech safeties coach Brett Dewhurst. Dewhurst spent 2013-14 on staff at Houston, then went to Texas Tech as a defensive quality control. He coached defensive backs at Southeastern Louisiana in 2017 before returning as safeties coach for the 2018 season at Texas Tech.
Los Angeles Chargers: Per source, offensive line coach Pat Meyer has been promoted to run game coordinator. Meyer was targeted by several teams but decided to stay in LA.
Stephen F. Austin (FCS – TX): JaMarkus McFarland has joined Colby Carthel’s staff as defensive tackles coach.
Jamestown (ND – NAIA): The University of Jamestown seeks a head football coach. The Jimmies compete in the NAIA and the Great Plains Athletic Association. The successful candidate must have a proven record of success and outstanding leadership skills. Interested candidates should submit their resume to [email protected].
Austin Peay (FCS – TN): Chad Bumphis (wide receivers), Marquase Lovings (associate head coach/defensive line), Eddy Morrissey (offensive line/run game coordinator), Mark Powell (safeties), Jordan Fraizer (DFO) & Spencer Grubbs (director of recruiting) have joined Mark Hudspeth’s staff at Austin Peay.
Northern Illinois: In case you missed it last night, NIU is set to introduce Thomas Hammock as its new head coach today.
Philadelphia Eagles: Source tells FootballScoop defensive line coach Chris Wilson and assistant offensive line coach Eugene Chung will not return.
Urban Meyer: Urban is reportedly set to take a new job in college football, but it’s not coaching.
Old Dominion: Source tells FootballScoop that three quality coaches are set to join Bobby Wilder’s staff.
Stephen F. Austin (FCS – TX): Former Houston receivers coach Kenny Guiton is now the outside wide receivers coach at SFA.
Independence CC (KS): Steve McCollom has joined the staff as special teams coordinator. He will also hold a position on the defensive staff.
Colorado: CU has hired Geoffrey Martzen as director of player personnel. He held the same post at UCLA and at Colorado State from 2015-17. Cymone George has also joined the staff as recruiting coordinator.
