Kansas: Ball State defensive backs coach Chevis Jackson has joined Les Miles’ staff in the same capacity.

Dixie State (D-II – UT): Earlier today we wrote that Snow College head coach Paul Peterson had been offered and was expected to accept the head coaching position at Dixie State. This evening, the program has announced he has accepted the job.

Green Bay Packers: The Packers have fired head coach Mike McCarthy. Details here.

ECU: Mike Houston has told his James Madison (FCS – VA) team he’s leaving and is expected to become the next head coach at ECU, per report.

Atlanta Legends (AAF): Iowa State senior offensive analyst / assistant to the head coach Jim Hofher is leaving Ames to join Brad Childress’ staff with the Atlanta Legends, tweets Bruce Feldman. Hofher previously served as the passing game coordinator for the Cyclones program from 2016-17.

Kansas State: The program has now formally announced the retirement of Bill Snyder and he will transition into a special ambassador role for the university. The release states that a national search is underway for his replacement and the search firm Ventura Partners will assist with the search.

Dixie State (D-II – UT): Source tells FootballScoop Snow College (JC – UT) head coach Paul Peterson has been offered and is expected to accept the head coaching position at Dixie State.

Bonuses: The following coaches have earned bonuses, per Steve Berkowitz: Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh ($200k for playing in a CFP non-semifinal), Missouri’s Barry Odom ($25k for finishing between #25 and #11 in final rankings), Fresno State’s Jeff Tedford ($150k for finishing between #25 and #11 in final rankings), Texas’ Tom Herman ($50k for playing in the Sugar Bowl), Georgia’s Kirby Smart ($175k for playing in CFP non-semifinal), LSU’s Ed Orgeron ($150k for noon CFP bowl / non-semifinal), Florida’s Dan Mullen ($200k for CFP non-semifinal).

Kliff Kingsbury: USC would like an answer from Kliff by midweek reports Jeff Darlington who adds that Kliff is fielding significant interest from the NFL both as an assistant and for head coaching positions. Stay tuned….

Kansas State: Per his contract, Bill Snyder will be paid $250,000 per year for as long “as he is physically and mentally able” to serve as special ambassador for Kansas State University tweets Steve Berkowitz.

Central Michigan: Thursday night we shared that CMU’s search had targeted Jim McElwain. This morning sources tell FootballScoop the deal is in place. Jim McElwain will be the new head coach at CMU.

Kliff Kingsbury: Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay reached out to Kliff Kingsbury about joining his staff for the stretch run tweets Peter Schrager. Sources tell FootballScoop a number of programs have discussed this idea with Kingsbury. Stay tuned….

East Carolina: After weeks, if not months of all the speculation pointing to him, multiple reports are now confirming Southern Miss AD Jon Gilbert will be announced as the new AD at East Carolina. Gilbert’s first order of business is finalizing the deal with James Madison head coach Mike Houston whose program lost yesterday in the FCS playoffs to Colgate. A deal has been in the works (per our sources) and could be completed shortly. Stay tuned…

Southern Illinois (FCS): Source tells FootballScoop head coach Nick Hill is hiring Dixie State offensive coordinator Blake Rolan as offensive coordinator / quarterbacks. Prior to joining Dixie State’s staff, Rolan previously coached at Kentucky & Cincinnati.

Carolina Panthers: Owner David Tepper is mulling some “major changes” within the organization, according to Jason La Canfora. Citing sources, La Canfora shares that “Tepper has been concerned about the lack of analytics in the franchise and has wondered whether the franchise was too old school in some regards, and the collapse of their defense and some recent in-game decisions by coach Ron Rivera have added to the unrest.”

Colorado: Rusty Mansell reports this morning that Mel Tucker will indeed be Colorado’s next head coach. More on the report here.

Kansas State: Yahoo sports Pete Thamel tweets that “we’ll get some clarity on Bill Snyder’s future” this afternoon. Friday, a number of reports were that Snyder planned to step down… Stay tuned.

Playoffs: The playoff matchups are set to be announced at 12:30 ET today. New Year’s 6 matchups at 3pm ET.

Utah State: Utah State leadership is planning to hire Gary Andersen as head coach, barring any unforeseen complications, source tells FootballScoop. DHR’s Glenn Sugiyama is involved so stay tuned…

Mel Tucker: Georgia defensive coordinator is reportedly set to become head coach at Colorado as of yesterday morning’s reports. However, Colorado issued a statement yesterday afternoon saying, hold on folks….

Pac-12: Amid a devastating multi-part series documenting issues within the conference from Oregonian columnist John Canzano, a former Pac-12 AD is calling for an investigation into conference expenditures. This could (and likely should) cause significant change within the conference.

Stephen F. Austin: Yesterday, sources with direct knowledge told FootballScoop SFA plans to hire Texas A&M Commerce head coach Colby Carthel as their new head coach.
