USC: John David Baker is joining the program as a quality control assistant, a source tells FootballScoop. Baker was Graham Harrell’s right-hand man at North Texas.

Great for the profession: Every program should adopt something similar to this.

Charleston Southern: Source tells FootballScoop LaGrange College offensive coordinator Felton Huggins is the new offensive coordinator at CSU. Huggins had been at LaGrange the past six seasons.

Memphis: Memphis has extended Mike Norvell through 2023, a 1-year addition to his existing contract. Salary details were not disclosed. Norvell made an AAC-best $2.6 million in 2018.

West Virginia: WVU has formally announced Blake Seiler as a defensive assistant. Staff assignments will be announced at a later date.

Michigan: Pep Hamilton will not return to the Michigan staff, according to Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider and Dan Murphy of ESPN. FootballScoop previously outlined how Jim Harbuagh’s staff had more men than spots available. Webb reports that Ben McDaniels will move from wide receivers to quarterbacks.

Pittsburgh Steelers: Former UCLA offensive line coach Adrian Klemm has joined the staff as assistant offensive line coach.

New Mexico: The Lobos have promoted safeties coach Jordan Peterson to defensive coordinator. Kevin Cosgrove will remain on staff as linebackers coach.

Cincinnati Bengals: Head coach Zac Taylor told reporters that he plans to call the offense next year.

Auburn: New running backs coach Carnell Williams will net a 2-year contract worth $325,000 a year, according to Auburn Undercover.

Tennessee: Jeremiah Wilson has joined the staff as a defensive quality control assistant. Wilson spent 2018 as the cornerbacks coach at Chattanooga.

West Virginia: Clemson GA Xavier Dye has joined the staff as wide receivers coach, according to his Twitter account.

Georgia State is doing something great for a select few high school coaches — and other programs should take notice

San Francisco 49ers: Wes Welker will join the staff in a yet-to-be-disclosed role, according to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle.

Houston Texans: The Texans have confirmed that tight ends coach Tim Kelly has been promoted to offensive coordinator. Will Lawing has taken over as tight ends coach. Carl Smith will coach quarterbacks and TJ Yates has joined the staff as an offensive assistant. Additionally, Akeem Dent has joined the staff as a defensive assistant.

Matt Campbell: Six NFL teams reached out to gauge Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell’s interest during this cycle reports Tommy Birch of the Des Moines Register who cites a source with direct knowledge.

Houston: Dana Holgorsen has hired North Texas director of creative content Brett Gemas as Houston’s director of creative media.

Waynesburg (D-III – PA): Waynesburg University is immediately accepting applications for a Part-Time Offensive Skill Coach.  Applicants will be responsible for coaching and managing their own position group, including meetings. Job responsibilities include but are not limited to, film breakdown, data entry, assisting with game preparation and other duties assigned by the head coach.  Candidates are expected to be efficient in Hudl, Excel, Microsoft Visio, and Microsoft Power Point.  Position will report to Head Football Coach.  Position will include a salary commensurate with experience. Rhodes (D-III – TN): Source tells FootballScoop offensive coordinator Brad Linares has left the staff to pursue opportunities outside of football.

Tiffin (D-II – OH): Tiffin University has open dates on October 5, 2019 and November 2, 2019. They are looking for a home game and willing to pay for a team to travel to Tiffin. All interested programs, please contact Seth Duerr at [email protected]

UTEP: Source tells FootballScoop Norfolk State outside linebackers coach Zach Tenuta is joining the UTEP staff as a defensive quality control.

Morgan State (FCS – MD): Tyrone Wheatley is expected to become the next head coach at Morgan State, sources told FootballScoop. Details here.

Buffalo: Lance Leipold has agreed to a new 5-year contract running through 2023, the school has announced. Leipold led the Bulls to a school-record 10 wins and was the MAC Coach of the Year in 2018. The new deal will reportedly pay Lance $615,000 per year.

NFL head coaches: Adam Schefter tweets this morning that of the eight new head coaches, only Dolphins’ Brian Flores received a five year, full-guaranteed deal. Most of the other head coaches received a four year deal which included a team option for a fifth year.

Texas A&M: Texas A&M Football has immediate opening for a graduate assistant on the defensive side if the ball. Applicants will assist the defensive staff in all aspects of the program including coaching, recruiting and player development. Applicants must have a strong coaching background, be an effective communicator and possess strong computer skills. Ohio: Defensive coordinator Jimmy Burrow has announced his retirement, and linebackers coach Ron Collins has been promoted to defensive coordinator. “After much discussion with my family, I’ve decided to retire from coaching,” said Burrow. “It was a difficult decision, but it gives me the opportunity to spend more time with family. I’d like to thank Coach Solich for giving me the opportunity to coach here at Ohio University. It has been an incredible experience to be a part of Ohio Football and this great university.”

Dan Lanning: The amazing rise of Dan Lanning, who drove 11 hours through the night to essentially force Pittsburgh to hire him and is now on the cusp of a coordinator job at Georgia.

Waynesburg (D-III – PA): Waynesburg University is immediately accepting applications for Part-Time Volunteer coaches.  Responsibilities include assisting with a position group, including meetings. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to, film breakdown, data entry, assisting with game preparation and other duties assigned by the head coach.  Candidates should possess a working knowledge of, or be capable of learning the functions with Hudl, Excel, Microsoft Visio, and Microsoft Power Point.  Position will report to Head Football Coach.  This is an unpaid, entry level position.  Anticipated candidates are individuals who are trying to begin a career in the coaching profession.  This position will provide valuable experience and references for future opportunities.  All interested applicants can apply by emailing resume, cover letter, and references to [email protected].

Cincinnati Bengals: NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport reported yesterday that Jack Del Rio was a leading candidate for the defensive coordinator position; but this morning Rapoport reports that after Del Rio and Zac Taylor met they mutually decided this wasn’t a perfect fit. Pelissaro adds Brian Callahan (Raiders’ quarterbacks coach) will be offensive coordinator for Taylor and Darrin Simmons is expected to stay on as special teams coordinator.

Richmond (FCS – VA): Source tells FootballScoop Southeastern Louisiana assistant head coach / defensive line Brandon Lacy has accepted the same role at Richmond. Lacy had spent the past 10 seasons at Southeastern.

Doane University (NAIA – NE): Doane has open dates August 31st 2019 and September 14th 2019. They are looking to play a home and home. All interested parties please contact Chris Bessler at [email protected]

Saint Francis (NAIA – IN): The University of Saint Francis has extended head coach Kevin Donley’s contract through 2023, in what the university is referring to as a rolling 5-year contract.

Western Kentucky: Source tells FootballScoop Zach Lankford will be the team’s new tight ends coach. Lankford, who played tight end @ UAB, coached offensive line at Faulkner University the past two seasons. He had joined the WKU staff a few weeks back in an offensive quality control role. He is being promoted following Richard Owens’ leaving to become offensive line coach at UAB.

Castleton (D-III – VT): Fair Haven HS (VT) head coach, Brian Grady has joined the Castleton staff as offensive coordinator source tells FootballScoop. Grady, a long time high school coach in Vermont, had previously served as Castleton quarterbacks coach during the 2009 and 2010 seasons.
