Auburn: Tight ends coach Larry Porter will add special teams coordinator duties, according to Auburn Undercover. He inherits the duties from running backs coach Tim Horton.

Southern Miss: Sources tell FootballScoop Austin Peay corners coach Eddie Hicks will be the new corners coach at Southern Miss. Hicks, a Southern Miss alum, previously coached on the Alcorn State staff as well as at Cal, Cincinnati and Murray State.

Rice: Klein Collins (Texas) High School head coach Drew Svoboda will be Rice’s running backs coach, tweets Matt Stepp of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football.

Alabama: Gordon Steele is joining Alabama’s staff as an analyst working with the offensive line per multiple reports. Steele served as a grad assistant last year on Joey Jones’ staff at South Alabama.

ESPN: ESPN College Gameday Analyst Jay Williams is calling for players to boycott Final Four games. Can you imagine Kirk Herbstreit publicly calling on Alabama and Georgia players to boycott the National Championship game?

San Francisco 49ers: The 49ers have promoted DeMeco Ryans to inside linebackers coach.

Gruden: Asked how he plans to use technology as head coach of the Raiders, Jon Gruden says, “I’m trying to throw it back to 1998.

NCAA – Football Development Group: The NCAA has recently hired Patrick Higgins and Jamil Northcutt into the football development group. Higgins, who has coached since 1990, spent 2005-2010 at BYU, 2011-12 at Purdue (including serving as interim head coach) and most recently was on Bronco Mendenhall’s staff at Virginia. Northcutt, who played for David Cutcliffe at Ole Miss, most recently served as the NFL’s director of football administration; but also has experience working for the Cleveland Browns, at Ole Miss, with the Chiefs and for the SEC. NCAA managing director of development and operations Mark Hicks notes, “We are extremely excited about adding Patrick and Jamil to the development staff. Their backgrounds and networks in football make them uniquely qualified in our goal of helping protect the game.”

San Francisco: The 49ers are promoting Keena Turner from vice president of football affairs to special advisor to GM John Lynch.

Lafayette (FCS – PA): Source tells FootballScoop Southern Illinois offensive coordinator John Van Dam will be the new offensive coordinator / quarterbacks coach at Lafayette.

Arkansas Pine Bluff (FCS): Former Kent State assistant Doc Gamble is joining the staff as assistant head coach / quarterbacks source tells FootballScoop.

CSU Pueblo (D-II): Mike McCarty is joining the staff as offensive coordinator / quarterbacks source tells FootballScoop. McCarty previously coached at Central Arkansas, Nicholls State, Illinois State, Elon, Hofstra, Arkansas State, and Troy.

Southern (FCS – LA):  After a 1-year hiatus, Chris Coleman is back for a fifth season as the wide receivers coach with Southern, source tells FootballScoop.

Boise State: The recruiting operations coordinator position is now posted.

Oakland Raiders: Tom Shaw will be the Raiders’ strength coach, Jon Gruden announced at the NFL Combine. He has previously worked with the New England Patriots. Gruden’s son, Deuce Gruden, will be on staff as an assistant.

Bluefield College (NAIA – VA): Mike Ketchum has joined the Bluefield College staff as offensive line coach. Coach Ketchum was previously the defensive coordinator at Hampton University. Ketchum replaces Markus Lawrence who accepted the tight ends coaching position at Alabama A&M.

Miami: Atlanta Falcons defensive assistant Jess Simpson is expected to be Miami’s defensive line coach, according to Inside The U. Simpson won seven state championships as the head coach at Buford High School in Georgia and was briefly hired as the defensive line coach/assistant head coach at Georgia State before joining the Falcons.

Morehead State (FCS – KY): Morehead State has an IMMEDIATE opening for an Assistant DL coach.  Position includes coaching, recruiting, and administrative duties assigned by Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator. Defensive Line playing or coaching experience preferred. Compensation is $10,000 per year, plus meals and housing. Mississippi State: We are told Bill Legg’s new title at Mississippi State will be senior offensive analyst.

NFL: Josh McDaniels left the Colts high and dry, and that saga could lead the NFL to end one of its silliest rules.

Alabama: Nick Saban helped push Butch Jones out of a job, now he could be giving him a new one.

Southwest Minnesota State (D-II): Todd Strop has been hired as defensive coordinator at Southwest Minnesota State University. In addition, there is a full time coach opening on defense.

Warner (NAIA – FL): Warner University is looking for an opponent for September 1, 2018. A home game is preferred. Would also consider the corresponding date in 2019.  We are looking for an NAIA or NCAA III opponent. There is a possible guarantee for a team that would travel.
