Thursday: Coaches Quick Hits

Vanderbilt: FootballScoop has learned that Mike Pelton has accepted the defensive ends position at Vanderbilt.  Pelton worked with Vanderbilt assistant Rick Logo as the staff at Troy for several years.

Memphis: We hear Ridgeway HS (Memphis, TN) head coach Rod Brown will be joining Larry Porter’s staff in an off-the-field role.

Minnesota-Duluth: Former South Dakota defensive coordinator Todd Strop accepted the defensive coordinator job at Minnesota-Duluth.

LA Tech: Rob Likens added the title of assistant head coach.

Lenoir-Rhyne: Former Bucknell offensive coordinator Brent Thompson accepted the offensive coordinator job at Lenoir-Rhyne.

Saskatchewan Roughriders: Doug Berry accepted the offensive coordinator position.

Tennessee: Our sources tell us former Oregon grad assistant Peter Sirmon accepted a defensive grad assistant job at Tennessee.

Princeton: Ryan Roeder accepted the tight ends job.

Chattanooga: Our sources tell us Vanderbilt grad assistant Norval McKenzie and University of Tennessee offensive quality control Jamaal Fobbs have interviewed for the running backs job at Chattanooga.

Bucknell: Our sources tell us former Princeton defensive line coach Matt Borich accepted a position on the Bucknell coaching staff.

Duke: Arizona State assistant head coach / safeties coach Matt Lubick has accepted the wide receivers job at Duke.  Lubick also served as the recruiting coordinator for the Sun Devils.  Lubick worked with Duke director of recruiting Kent McCleod and offensive line coach Matt Luke while on Ed Orgeron’s staff at Ole Miss.

Iowa State: Former San Diego State defensive coordinator (2006-08) Bobby Elliott accepted the defensive backs job at Iowa State.

USC: ESPN’s Bruce Feldman reports that Arkansas State offensive coordinator Clay Helton has accepted a position on the offensive side of the ball at USC.  There is another report that says Brennan Carroll will likely step down at USC.  He coaches the tight ends.

Eastern Michigan: We hear Ron English interview University of Findlay offensive coordinator Doug Downing for the running backs job.

Princeton: We hear former Bucknell assistant Bill McCord accepted a defensive assistant position at Princeton.

West Virginia Wesleyan College: seeks candidates for a full-time offensive coordinator position for the sport of football.  Qualifications:  Bachelor’s Degree required; a strong knowledge of quarterback play; strong communications skills.  Candidate’s must demonstrate a proven knowledge for coaching quarterbacks, calling plays, a great work ethic, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to interact professionally within the department, the campus, and the community.  Offensive coordinator and/or play calling experience are preferred.  This is a full time position with benefits.  Please send credentials by e-mail to [email protected] or fax to 304-473-8056.  A review of applications will begin immediately and continue until a successful candidate is identified.  EOE

Hawaii: Defensive line coach Dave Aranda has been promoted the defensive coordinator.  Our source tells us Craig Lee will remain as linebackers coach. Director of player personnel will move from director of player personnel to defensive line coach.  George Lumpkin will move into the director of player personnel position.

LA Tech: We hear Tommy Spangler will return as defensive coordinator.

Austin College: We hear Max Hawsey, former head coach at Grinnell College, is the new offensive coordinator.
