Southwestern Oklahoma State: Southwestern Oklahoma State University is accepting applications for an Offensive Graduate Assistant Coaching the Tight End Position. The candidate will assist with all aspects of a NCAA Division II football program including compliance with NCAA and Univ. rules, coaching a position, recruiting, video editing and breakdown and other duties as assigned. Previous participation and/or coaching experience is desired. Must be able to be admitted to the Graduate School per University Policy. Louisiana Lafayette: ULL officially announced the hire of Melvin Smith today. His official title is assistant head coach / defensive backs / co-defensive coordinator. James Willis’ title remains defensive coordinator.

Arkansas Tech: Auburn analyst Brent Dearmon will be the new offensive coordinator at Arkansas Tech.

Virginia Tech: We understand Virginia Tech has filled their recruiting grad assistant position. Will update once official.

USC: Spoke with sources very close to the situation at USC tonight. They confirm that Mississippi State offensive line coach John Hevesy is among a very small number of remaining candidates for the offensive line job at USC. They advise that no offer has been extended at this time.

Louisville: Offensive coordinator Garrick McGee will stay at Louisville. He has released a statement thanking Bob Stoops for the offer to interview but says he will remain at Louisville.

Pitt: Per source, FIU defensive coordinator Josh Conklin has agreed to become defensive coordinator at Pitt. We expect Conklin to bring linebackers coach Rob Harley as well. Update> Sources confirm to us that Harley will indeed join the staff as well.

Houston: As we reported weeks back, Major Applewhite is joining the staff. His title will be offensive coordinator / quarterbacks.

Tampa Bay: The Bucs have hired Falcons offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter in the same capacity.

Oklahoma State: Mike Gundy has announced the hiring of Dan Hammerschmidt and Eric Wolford. Hammerschmidt, who coached the running backs at Houston last season, will fill a defensive assistant position and Wolford, the former Youngstown State head coach, will be an offensive coach. Receivers coach Jason Ray will not return. As we understand it, Hammerschmidt will coach the corners and Wolford and Bob Connelly will work together on the offensive line. The nine are now full for Oklahoma State.
Louisiana Lafayette: Per source, Hud plans to bring former Auburn assistant Melvin Smith on to coach the defensive backs.

Kentucky: Vince Marrow, who made $175,000 a year ago, has received a raise and will make $350,000 this year, $375,000 in 2016, and $400,000 in 2017.

Arkansas: Bret Bielema announced today that six of his assistants have signed contract extensions and received raises, and three more are in the process of finalizing agreements. The six assistants that have signed extensions are DC Robb Smith (who will make $750K in 2015, $800k in 2016 and $850k in 2017), OL coach / recruiting coordinator Sam Pittman ($525k), tight ends coach Barry Lunney Jr. ($240k), defensive line coach and specialists coach Rory Segrest ($240k), DBs coach Clay Jennings ($350k) and head strength coach Ben Herbert ($330k). Robb Smith’s new deal has a $250k buyout from January 1, 2015 to Feb 15, 2018, but drops to $100k on February 16, 2018 and the buyout does no apply if he leaves for a head coaching job or NFL defensive coordinator position. Amendments to the contracts for Jim Chaney (OC / QBs), Joel Thomas (RBs) and Michael Smith (WRs) are being finalized and will be released in the near future.

Northwest Missouri State (D-II): Former captain Brandon Clayton has been hired to coach the secondary. Clayton spent the last four seasons at the defensive backs coach and special teams coordinator at Morningside College (NAIA – IA).

Chicago Bears: The Bears have hired Ryan Pace (New Orleans Saints) as their new general manager.

Oklahoma: Things are happening at Oklahoma. A quick update on where things stand.

Albany: Former Clarion (D-II – PA) head coach Jay Foster has been hired to coach the defensive backs, per source.

Troy: Troy has an immediate opening for two Graduate Assistants positions, one on each side of the ball. The positions will be working with Defensive Backs and either Running Backs or Quarterbacks. Previous college coaching experience is preferred, but not required. The successful candidate must be able to gain admission into the Troy University graduate school. Illinois: In addition to Tim Salem, Illinois has now announced that defensive line coach Greg Colby will also not return.

Houston Texans: Multiple outlets in Houston are reporting that offensive line coach Paul Dunn has been let go.

Michigan: Peter Schrager of Fox Sports is reporting that former Jacksonville Jaguars offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch will be offered the pass game coordinator role on Jim Harbaugh’s staff. Update> Multiple outlets are reporting he is joining the staff as pass game coordinator / receivers coach.

US Military Academy Prep School (West Point, NY): The US Military Academy Prep School (Army Prep), located at West Point, NY is seeking volunteer coaches immediately, and for the coming season. Multiple positions are available. The position is unpaid. Offensively, triple option experience is a plus. Lyon College (NAIA – AR): Lyon College is seeking a home game on October 24th of 2015. It is Lyon College’s first year of competition. Pitt: Sources tell us that Maryland special teams coordinator / running backs coach Andre Powell will join Pat Narduzzi’s staff.

        It could be a big week for three former high-profile USC assistants.

Wayne State College (D-II – NE): Receivers coach Logan Masters has been promoted to offensive coordinator.

Franklin College (D-III – IN): Franklin has filled their open date. Thank you for the overwhelming interest in the opening.

Northern Michigan: Northern Michigan University has an opening for an entry level assistant coach that will work on the defensive side of the ball with strength and conditioning responsibilities. Previous college coaching experience is preferred. This is a full-time, 12 month position with benefits. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: recruiting a specific area, assisting with practice and game planning, film breakdown, and other administrative duties assigned by the Head Coach. Tulsa: Billy Embody of PonyStampede.com is reporting that SMU defensive line coach Bill Young is expected to take the defensive coordinator job at Tulsa. Young is the former defensive coordinator at Oklahoma State, Kansas, Miami, Ohio State, and numerous other stops. Prior to accepting the defensive line position at SMU a few weeks ago, Young was the head coach at Yukon HS (OK).

Lamar (FCS – TX): Lamar University is looking for a home game Sept 5th, 2015. If interested contact head coach Ray Woodard at [email protected].

Wilkes University (D-III – PA): Wilkes University is seeking applications for two intern positions one on the offensive side of the ball and one on the defensive side of the ball. Internship includes coaching a position, running meetings and recruiting an assigned territory. Compensation includes housing, some meals, and a stipend. Cleveland Browns: Alex Marvez is reporting that the organization is parting ways with offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan after one season. Marvez adds that quarterbacks coach Dowell Loggains has also been let go.

St. Ambrose (NAIA – IA): St Ambrose has an open date on September 12 or 26, 2015 with corresponding date in 2016. Looking for a home and home, but will consider one year deal. Must be a home game in 2015. Teams with interest please contact [email protected] for more information.

Illinois: Special teams coordinator Tim Salem will not return to the staff, per source.

The Strength Scoop has a few new high profile changes/additions

St. Augustine’s University (D-II – NC): Head coach Michael Morand has announced a number of promotions; Timothy Chavous has been promoted to co-offensive coordinator / running backs coach, Jimmy Heggins has been promoted to assistant head coach / offensive line coach and Wayne Kelly has been elevated to special teams coordinator.

Michigan State: Former Texas A&M defensive coordinator Mark Snyder is expected to join Mark Dantonio’s staff, according to Bruce Feldman.

Findlay (D-II – OH): Jake Zweig has joined the staff at Findlay as co-defensive coordinator / defensive line coach.

Oregon State: Per source, Derrick Yray has been hired at Oregon State as the assistant director of player personnel. Yray previously worked under Vince Guinta at Fresno State.

Penn State: Defensive coordinator Bob Shoop announced on his Twitter account that he is committed to building a Big Ten and a National Championship Program at Penn State. Multiple outlets are now reporting that Shoop is expected to get a new 3-year deal at Penn State worth about $1 million annually. The news was first reported by Fox Sports.

East Los Angeles College (CC – CA): Per source, former Moorpark College (CC – CA) offensive coordinator Eric Marty is the new head coach at East LA College.
