FootballScoop is very proud to announce growth in both the number of users and the amount of times all users came to the site of well over 50% compared to last November (which was already by far our largest November ever). We sincerely appreciate your viewership and have bought extra supplies for the cold, cold winter ahead. We’ll keep the lights on.
Memphis: Geoff Calkins out of Memphis has reported that Memphis, after negotiating for several days, is moving on from Barry Odom. We’ll see. Jimmy Sexton is involved…
Georgia: Kirby Smart will be Georgia’s next head coach, the AJC has reported and FootballScoop has been told the same. The deal isn’t expected to be final until after the SEC Championship game per source. Sources tell FootballScoop that Jeremy Pruitt will not be retained and is expected to be targeted by Alabama to fill Smart’s position. We have been told that Smart hopes to bring Will Muschamp as his defensive coordinator however this is not a done deal (ole Muschamp might have other things working…). We wrote earlier in the day about Glen Schumann. Georgia fans, get to know him. He’s coming…unless Nick does something BIG. We are told to expect Alabama strength coach Scott Cochran to come with Smart to Georgia. Source tells FootballScoop that Kirby hopes to retain sam linebackers coach Kevin Sherrer. We were also told to expect Smart to retain Bryan McClendon and Thomas Brown. More on the pending hire here.
Syracuse: The Oregonian, citing a source, reports that Syracuse offered their head coaching position to Scott Frost prior to Frost accepting the same job at UCF. Brandon Helwig (who covers UCF) reports that Frost’s annual compensation at UCF is expected to be in the $2 million per year range. The Oregonian reports that Syracuse’s offer to Frost began at $1.2 million per year, a puzzling number given that it is below what Scott Shafer made and every other head coach in the ACC makes right at or above $2 million per. Given these numbers it seems entirely possible that something was lost in translation from east coast to west coast or from source to reporter; but… ’tis the season.
Hawaii: Rolo will retain offensive line coach Chris Naeole and defensive backs coach Abe Elimimian.
McDaniel College (D-III – MD): Receivers coach Mike Dailey has been named head coach of the program.
Tusculum College (D-II – TN): After 18 seasons leading the program, head coach Frankie DeBusk has been informed that he will not return next season. DeBusk was 96-100 overall during his time at Tusculum, including a 4-7 mark this season.
Michigan: The Detroit Free Press is reporting that Michigan is starting to ramp up their efforts to fill their athletic director position, and the interim AD is not expected to be interim AD Jim Hackett. A search committee will likely be formed this week and a hire could be made as early as this month.
Missouri: Pat Forde with Yahoo is reporting that Mack Rhoades has interviewed Troy Calhoun, Matt Wells and Mike Bobo recently and is meeting with Sonny Dykes today. Forde notes that Barry Odom is very much still a candidate. SI’s Pete Thamel reports that Wells did not interview…which just means Matt Wells won’t be the next head coach at Missouri.
Iowa State: The Cyclones have now officially announced the additions of Tom Manning (OL), Alex Golesh (TE / Recruiting Coordinator), D.K. McDonald (corners), and John Kuceyeski (director of scouting).
Texas A&M-Commerce (D-II): A source tell us head coach Colby Carthel has agreed to a contract extension through 2020. Three years on the deal are guaranteed with two option years.
Shaw University (D-II – NC): Per source, the entire staff has been let go.
Miami: Multiple outlets are confirmed that Dan Mullen has interviewed for the job in the last 24 hours now, and Susan Miller Degnan who covers The U for the Miami Herald reports that Mark Richt is in Miami with AD Blake James now. Stay tuned….
North Texas: SI & ESPN folks are reporting that Doug Meacham has removed his name from consideration at North Texas. As Zach wrote yesterday, looks like North Texas might need to wait until the ACC championship game is over to announce their new hire.
Miami: We have reported that Butch Davis and Greg Schiano have recently interviewed for the job. Today, Dave Hyde who covers the Canes for the Orlando Sentinel reports that Dan Mullen has interviewed as well and that Mark Richt is expected to today. We had been told yesterday that Miami would like to have a decision no later than tomorrow.
Texas Tech: Outside linebackers coach Trey Haverty has been let go, per KCBD News. Defensive coordinator David Gibbs and linebackers coach Zac Spavital are expected to remain, per source.
Jimbo Fisher: On the Open Mike radio show this morning Jimbo Fisher was asked to confirm that he is staying at Florida State. Fisher, “You’re exactly right. I’m staying right here at Florida State.”
Georgia: Seth Emerson who covers Georgia for DawgNation reports that a search firm has been hired (head scratcher there). Emerson adds that Kirby Smart remains the target but with Alabama in the SEC championship game and you know, Nick at the helm, it is unlikely Kirby would publicly take action this week. Per Emerson, regardless of who is hired, Jeremy Pruitt is not expected to be retained. FootballScoop continues to hear that Dan Mullen is the dark horse in this one.
Iowa State: Per source, Toledo strength coach Rudy Wade will join Matt Campbell’s staff at Iowa State. More on Strength Scoop.
Montana State (FCS): Offensive coordinator Tim Cramsey interviewed for the head job yesterday. Jeff Choate (UW) and Johnny Nansen (USC) both have interviews planned, per sources.
Missouri: Temple head coach Matt Rhule has removed his name from consideration according to Owl Scoop.
Iowa State: Per source, Toledo strength and conditioning coach Rudy Wade is following Matt Campbell to Iowa State. More details on The Strength Scoop.
UCF: Oregon offensive coordinator Scott Frost will be the new head coach at UCF, per Brandon Helwig. We have confirmed the hire. Here’s what you should know. Update: The school has announced the hire.
Iowa State: Toledo linebackers coach Tyson Veidt and corners coach D.K. McDonald have joined Matt Campbell’s staff per a report from SI. We can confirm those hires and understand that Toledo director of high school relations John Kuceyeski is headed to Ames as well, per source.
Defiance College (D-III – OH): Sources tell us that Defiance College has an offensive graduate assistant position open.
Illinois: A search committee to identify, select, and hire a new AD will be formed by the end of the week and Illinois would like to have the new AD in place by January according to The News-Gazette.
