New England Patriots: Nick Caley, who spent the past two seasons as a coaching assistant with the team, has been elevated to tight ends coach. Caley steps in for Brian Daboll who left to become the offensive coordinator at Alabama.

Toronto Argonauts (CFL): Former Bears head coach Marc Trestman, who spent last season as the offensive coordinator for the Ravens, is heading back to Canada as the head coach of the Toronto Argonauts, per Gary Lawless who adds that Jim Popp is joining the organization as GM.


Scoop Him Up: Greg Moore is an infectious, qualified coach looking to get back into the game as an assistant coach or in a quality control position. He graduated with a Bachelor’s criminal justice from the University of Cincinnati in 2011, where he was a four-year letter-winner as a running back for the Bearcats. Moore has been coaching for nine years, including eight years at his alma mater Trotwood Madison High School as a co-offensive coordinator, Special Teams Coordinator and running backs coach. He coached one year at Alderson-Broaddus University where I was the running backs coach and special teams co-coordinator. Moore was the Brig Owens award winner, awarded to the best back on the team, and attended Cincinnati Bengals rookie mini-camp in 2008. He is also a certified strength and conditioning coach and trains college and pro athletes of all sports. He can be reached at [email protected].


Vanderbilt: Warren Belin, the former director of high school relations at Wake Forest, has joined the staff as outside linebackers coach. Belin steps in for Osia Lewis, who was recently diagnosed with cancer and who moved into an off the field role as chief consultant to the head coach. Belin was a former Vandy assistant from 2002-2009, where he coached linebackers, among various other duties.

FIU: Drew Davis, the former Ole Miss quarterback, has joined the staff as a graduate assistant on the offensive side of the ball.

UNLV: Travis Burkett has joined the staff as running backs coach, according to multiple reports. Burkett spent the past decade as an assistant at Cornell (FCS – NY), most recently as assistant head coach / defensive backs coach.

Iowa State: Colby Kratch, who spent the past two seasons as a graduate assistant at Michigan State, has joined the Cyclone staff as a graduate assistant on defense.

Charleston Southern (FCS – SC): Per source, running backs coach Newland Isaac has added the title of recruiting coordinator and Charlie Skalaski IV will be assistant offensive line coach / assistant recruiting coordinator and pro liason.

Holy Cross (FCS – MA): Per source, Midwestern State (D-II – TX) wide receivers coach Darren Paige has accepted the wide receivers job at Holy Cross.

When coaches get DUIs, programs respond in wildly different ways

California: Cal has hired Tony Tuioti as outside linebackers coach.

New Mexico State: The Aggies have announced former NMSU record-setting quarterback Chase Holbrook has joined the staff as tight ends coach, and Kai Brown has been hired as defensive ends coach.

Delta State (D-II – MS): Delta State is seeking a special teams graduate assistant. A bachelor’s degree and valid driver’s license is required. This position includes grad school tuition and an on-campus meal plan. Tiffin (D-II – OH): Per source, Iowa State graduate assistant Phillip Ely has been hired to coach the quarterbacks at Tiffin.

Georgetown (FCS – Washington, DC): Sources tell FootballScoop that Tiffin University (D-II – OH) offensive coordinator Adam Neugebauer is leaving to become the new wide receivers coach at Georgetown.

New Mexico State: Kai Brown, who spent last season as a graduate assistant on staff, has been promoted to defensive ends coach. Also, Oliver Soukup (LBs coach), and Matt Christian (RBs) will serve as co-special teams coordinators.

Cortland (D-III – NY): Per source, SUNY Cortland plans to fill their open position with an in house candidate and is not accepting applications at this time.

Ave Maria (NAIA – FL): Ave Maria University in Southwest Florida is looking for a coach to join its defensive staff.  The coach would serve as an assistant to one of the position coaches.  Housing and a meal plan are included, as well as a modest stipend.  Interested candidates should send a cover letter and resume to Head Coach Joe Patterson at [email protected].

Bethel (NAIA – TN): Sources tell FootballScoop that defensive coordinator Willie Fells is stepping down to become the defensive coordinator at Clay HS (FL).

North Alabama (D-II): UNA is looking to fill an open date with a home and home (must be Week 2 of 2017). Willing to offer a guarantee fora  one year deal at home. Must be a Division II game. Interested programs can contact [email protected] or call 256-765-4843.

Ave Maria (NAIA – FL): Ave Maria University (near Naples, Florida) is looking for a coach to work with its kickers and punters. The coach would also assist the special teams coordinator.
