Baylor: Matt Rhule’s contract with Baylor will be a 7-year deal, per Brett McMurphy.

Houston: Lincoln Riley “hit it out of the park” during his interview with Houston, Dennis Dodd writes for CBS. Sources connected to the search have told us the same. We’ll keep you posted.

Northern Michigan (D-II): Sources tell FootballScoop that UNC Pembroke (D-II – NC) head coach Shane Richardson has chosen to withdraw his name from consideration for the head coaching job at Northern Michigan and has elected to stay at UNC Pembroke.

Navy has answered Army’s special uniforms with a new look of their own.

Broyes Award: Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables has been named the winner of the 2016 Broyles Award.

Fresno State: Jeff Tedford has announced the hiring of Jamie Christian (RBs/ST), Kirby Moore (WRs), Scott Thompson (TEs), J.D. Williams (DBs), as well as Spencer Harris as director of player personnel and Brian Wilkinson as DFO.

Baylor: Scout reports that Temple director of player personnel Evan Cooper will join Matt Rhule at Baylor.

Temple: Assistant head coach / tight ends coach Ed Foley will serve as Temple’s interim head coach, per Matt Fortuna. Sources tell FootballScoop Temple will have a full open search for their next head coach.

Baylor: Temple head coach Matt Rhule will be the program’s new head coach, according to Ashley Hodge who covers Baylor. Bruce Feldman of Fox Sports has now reported the same. UPDATE>> Baylor has now officially announced the hire of Rhule.

Lincoln (D-II – MO): Former Albany State (D-II – GA) offensive coordinator Steven Smith is the new head coach of the Blue Tigers.

Missouri: Barry Odom notes that he plans to ask his eight current assistant coaches to return in 2017, according to The St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The dismissal of defensive line coach Jackie Shipp is the lone full-time opening for Odom at this time. Odom also noted that he plans to maintain defensive play calling duties moving forward after taking over those duties with five games left this past season.

Gregg Popovich’s answer for chasing championships while developing better people is a model for all coaches.

Mike Gundy: ESPN’s Brett McMurphy has just reported the same thing we did last night, that Mike Gundy is not involved in the Baylor process.

Baylor: Last night we wrote that Baylor and A-State head coach Blake Anderson had begun negotiating, noting that the deal is not done. Reps have since alerted us to contract language in Anderson’s contract with A-State precluding him from being able to engage in direct talks without prior consent which they had not sought as of last night. Our understanding is that several coaches, typically through their agents, have discussed terms of a deal with Baylor only to have the deal then fizzle. Will update as more transpires.

Whittier (D-III – CA): Whittier College is seeking applicants for two graduate assistant coaching positions (1 offensive, 1 defensive). Qualifications include acceptance into graduate school (3.0 minimum GPA). The position includes a monthly stipend of $200, some meals, and free graduate school (Masters Edu.). No housing, or benefits are included, so candidates currently living in or around L.A., or with the ability to relocate to Los Angeles are more likely to make this position work effectively based on the pay of this position. The successful candidate will coach his own position, run positional meetings, contribute to the weekly game plan, have video editing duties (HUDL), and have his own recruiting area. Start date is as soon as possible. Please email a cover letter, resume, and references to head coach Mike Neale at [email protected]. No phone calls please.

Northern Michigan (D-II): Northern Michigan has announced five finalists for their head coaching position and they are; Michigan State offensive line coach Mark Staten, Ferris State co-defensive coordinator Kyle Nystrom, Grand Valley State (D-II – MI) co-defensive coordinator Nick Postma, UNC Pembroke (D-II) head coach / defensive coordinator Shane Richardson, and Fairmont State (D-II) head coach / offensive coordinator Jason Woodman. Interviews will take place on-campus starting today and going through Monday December 12th.

Arizona Cardinals: Bruce Arians told reporters that rumors of him considering retirement following a few heath issues this season “could not be further from the truth.”

Nevada: The Wolf Pack are down to a few finalists that include Eastern Washington (FCS) head coach Beau Baldwin and Vanderbilt offensive coordinator Andy Ludwig, according to the Reno Gazette-Journal, who adds that at least one candidate remains unknown at this point. Bruce Feldman adds Jay Norvell to the list of candidates in play for the job. We hear there is another candidate as well. The Gazette-Journal adds that on-campus interviews are taking place this week and they hope to make a hire by Friday.
