    Ohio State: Urban Meyer is undergoing surgery to remove his appendix and has cancelled a speaking event, but we have received word that he is fine and it is nothing serious.

    Minnesota State – Mankato (D-II): We hear there are some budgetary issues that might preclude Todd Hoffner from being able to fill Brian Bell’s position with a new full-time hire. Will update…

    New Mexico State: Per source, Minnesota State – Mankato defensive backs / recruiting coordinator Brian Bell has accepted the safeties position at New Mexico State.

    Carolina Panthers: Special teams coordinator Bruce DeHaven has taken a leave of absence to deal with health concerns. Russ Purnell, who has coached in the NFL for 26 years, will assume DeHaven’s duties until he returns.

    Jacksonville State (FCS): Jacksonville State is looking for two football games in 2016. Possible dates include September 3, September 17 or September 24.     Youngstown State (FCS – OH): Bo Pelini’s contract runs four years at $213,894 a year according to Dana Balash of WFMJ-TV in Youngstown.

    Alfred State (D-III – NY): Per source, Minot State’s Byron Thomas has been hired as assistant head coach and defensive coordinator.

    Chicago Bears: Per source and as others are reporting, director of college scouting Marty Barrett will not return.

    Samford (FCS – AL): Jeff Beckles, the former running backs coach at Troy, has joined the Samford staff as running backs coach.

    Coffeyville CC (KS): Coffeyville CC has an immediate opening for a defensive quality control coach. This position will be accompanied with duties of film upload, data input, and other various administrative tasks that aid with game and practice planning. This position also includes the opportunity to gain on grass experience as you will be responsible for coaching the Star Linebackers. A resident assistant position is tied in with this coaching spot.     Kansas State: K-State has announced a one-year extension for athletics director John Currie with a raise to $775,000 a year. Why it’s a (small) step forward in the ongoing NCAA revolution.

    UC Davis: Athletic director Terry Tumey recently stepped down to “pursue other opportunities” and Teresa Gould (the wife of UC Davis head coach Ron Gould) has been named interim AD, and is a candidate for the permanent post. Jon Wilner of the Mercury News has an interesting read on some of the other candidates for the position.

    Pac-12 Conference: The Pac-12 has hired David Coleman as its new vice president of officiating. Coleman had served as the NFL’s director of officiating since 2010.

    Central Methodist (NAIA – MO): David Calloway has been announced as the new defensive coordinator. Calloway is the former head coach and Texas A&M-Kingsville (D-II). Head coach Jody Ford has spent the last six seasons coordinating the defense.

    Iowa State: Defensive backs coach Maurice Linguist has added the title of defensive pass game coordinator.

    Northern State (D-II – SD): Head coach Tom Dosch has announced the addition of Kraig Paulson as defensive backs coach. Paulson spent the past four seasons as the defensive coordinator / assistant head coach / linebackers coach at UNLV.

    Missouri Valley (NAIA): Per source, Davonte Lee has joined the staff working with the defensive line. Lee was an assistant at Ramsay HS (Birmingham, AL) last season.

    Midwestern State (D-II – TX): Midwestern State University is currently seeking an offensive graduate assistant football coach. The position includes a stipend, housing, and tuition assistance for graduate school. Coaching responsibilities to include; but not limited to, running backs. Experience playing and coaching running backs or quarterbacks is preferred.
