    Virginia Tech: Bud Foster hints to the Roanoke Times that an extension is coming soon with the Hokies. We see that the Richmond Times Dispatch has reported the same as well. Andy Bitter, who covers VT, adds now that Foster has agreed to a five year extension that will pay him more than $750,000 per year. Bitter says it will be considerably more but doesn’t have a figure at this time. Will update…

    Bethune Cookman (FCS): Per source, Terry Sims will be announced as the new head coach this afternoon. Sims served as the assistant head coach / special teams coordinator / defensive backs coach the past five seasons for the program. Sources tell us a significant portion of the coaching staff will remain at Bethune with coach Sims.

    Toledo: Head coach Matt Campbell has signed an extension through 2020, per the Toledo Blade & ESPN. An official announcement is expected later today. Campbell’s current deal runs through 2017 and pays a base salary of $285,000. Update > The school has now announced the extension.

    LSU: Defensive coordinator John Chavis has agreed to a new three year deal worth $4 million to remain at LSU, according to Derek Ponamsky of ESPN Baton Rouge.

    Malone (D-II – OH): Malone University, an NCAA Division II institution located in Canton, OH, is seeking applications for a graduate assistant position on defense. The positions require a highly motivated person to assist with the implementation of practices, evaluation of student athletes, off and on campus recruiting, scouting and other duties assigned by the head football coach. This is an 11 month position that includes housing, tuition waiver, stipend and some board.     University of Waterloo (Canada): The school has announced Chris Bertoia as head coach and manager of football operations. Bertoia spent the last five seasons coaching the offensive line and serving as the recruitment coordinator at Western University (Canada).

    Miami Dolphins: Owner Steve Ross told reporters today that Joe Philbin will be back in 2015. Philbin is 7-9, and 8-8 in his two full seasons, and sits at 8-7 this year with one game remaining.

    Georgia: Sources tell us that Alabama assistant strength coach Mark Hocke will be the new head strength coach at UGA. Update > Mark Richt has formally announced the addition of Hocke as the director of strength and conditioning.

    Scottsdale CC (AZ): Per source, special teams coordinator Christian Vitale has resigned.

    San Francisco 49ers: Jay Glazer reports that Jim Harbaugh’s time with the 49ers will come to an end within a day or two of the team’s final game (next Sunday).

    Atlanta Falcons: Owner Arthur Blank has “informed multiple parties that he plans on moving on from head coach Mike Smith at the end of the season” according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.

    Tennessee State: The Tennessean reports that head coach Rod Reed has agreed to an extension at Tennessee State.

    Montana: Bob Stitt’s deal is worth $175,000 annually over three years, per The Missoulian.

    Sacramento City College (CC): Per source, defensive backs coach Jordan McGowan has accepted the head coaching position at San Juan High School.

    Lawrence University (D-III – WI): Sources tell us that Lawrence is down to their final two candidates for the head coaching position, St. Patricks HS (IL) head coach Dan Galante and Knox College (D-III – IL) athletic director, and former Knox head coach, Chad Eisele.

    Congratulations to national champions Colorado State-Pueblo (Division II), Wisconsin-Whitewater (Division III) and Southern Oregon (NAIA), as well as FCS finalists North Dakota State and Illinois State.

    Colorado State: After the game today, interim head coach Dave Baldwin stated “the entire staff has received termination papers”. The school later clarified that this does not mean that they cannot be retained by the next head coach and is a standard step for human resources. This staff & team won ten games. This was the first time in over a decade that has happened and one of only a handful of times this has happened in 100+ years of CSU football. Tough business.

    Dordt College (NAIA -IA): Dordt College has an immediate opening for a graduate assistant on defense.  Applicants must have an undergraduate degree in education and demonstrate a strong interest in working at a Christian college.  For a full job description and application procedure, please click here.  Preferred start date in January 13, 2015.

    Colorado State: Ohio State co-defensive coordinator Chris Ash and former USC associate head coach John Baxter have interviewed for the Colorado State job according to Brett McMurphy of ESPN.

    Northeast Mississippi CC: Offensive coordinator Greg Davis has been promoted to head coach.

    Dixie State (D-II – UT): Longtime high school coach Blaine Monkres has been hired as Dixie State’s director of offense.

    Millsaps College (D-III – MS): Millsaps College is seeking a restricted earnings offensive assistant football coach.  The applicant must be motivated hard working and willing to learn.  The position will include coaching wide receivers and will require some video responsibility as well as other jobs assigned by the head coach or offensive coordinator.  The successful candidate will be responsible for a recruiting area.  The candidate must have a valid driver’s license, a bachelor’s degree and pass a background check.  This position is a 10 month contract with no benefits paying $7,500 and housing is included.  The job will start on Monday February 2nd, 2015.  All interviews will take place at this year’s AFCA Convention; candidates must be able to interview during the AFCA convention January 10th-January 12th in Louisville, KY.   Please send resumes to  No phone calls.  Millsaps is a private D3 college located in Jackson, Mississippi.

    Texas Southern (FCS): Head coach Darrell Asberry has announced that offensive coordinator Mark Orlando has accepted a similar position at Alabama State.

    Northwestern: Pat Fitzgerald will not make any changes to his staff, the Chicago Tribune reports.

    Bethune-Cookman: Sources tell FootballScoop that the University’s short list of candidates includes, but is not limited to, UCF running backs coach Danny Barrett, Southern head coach Dawson Odums, Miami (Ohio) running backs coach Autry Denson as well as multiple internal candidates from Brian Jenkins staff as well, certainly including Terry Sims.

    Vanderbilt: Derek Mason has reached out to Michigan State quarterbacks coach / recruiting coordinator Brad Salem about the vacant offensive coordinator position, per Hondo Carpenter who covers Michigan State.

    Morehead State (FCS – KY): Morehead State is accepting resumes for an entry level (part-time) position with primary responsibility of coaching running backs. Position includes coaching, recruiting, equipment, and administrative duties assigned by HFC. A minimum of 1-2 years coaching experience is preferred. Playing experience at RB or previous experience coaching the position is a plus. Compensation is estimated to be $1,000 monthly stipend.     Oregon State: Former SMU defensive backs coach Derrick Odum is joining Gary Andersen’s staff.

    South Florida: USF confirms that Danny Hope has been hired as co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach and QB coach David Reaves will serve as co-offensive coordinator overseeing the passing game. Head coach Willie Taggart will resume all play-calling duties according to USF beat writer Joey Johnston.

    Fairmont State (D-II – WV): Northeastern Oklahoma A&M linebackers coach Zach Crissup is joining the staff, per source.

    Nebraska-Kearney (D-II): Joe Holtzclaw has been hired to coach the offensive line. Holtzclaw previously served as offensive coordinator / offensive line coach at Hastings College (NAIA – NE).

    Ohio Northern (D-III): Ohio Northern University is accepting resumes for a restricted earnings position with primary responsibility of coaching running backs. The job also includes responsibility for own position and recruiting area as well as additional duties as assigned. Proficiency with HUDL editing software is required. A minimum of 1-2 years coaching experience is preferred. Playing experience at RB or previous experience coaching the position is a plus.     Kansas: Per source, former Tulsa defensive tackles coach Calvin Thibodeaux is joining the Kansas staff.

    Arkansas: AD Jeff Long was asked yesterday if a pay raise for Bret Bielema was imminent, “we’re not at that point yet” but Long reiterated that he is pleased with Bielema’s work. Long says they will revisit this, along with a number of other topics, following the bowl game. Regarding Bielema Long offered, “You know what? Bret has had some success here. He got us to a bowl game probably a year earlier than maybe I anticipated. So we’ll discuss those things. That’s important.” – Quotes and link via

    Kansas: Northern Illinois linebackers coach Kevin Kane is expected to join David Beaty’s staff, per Thayer Evans.

    Alabama State: Per source, associate head coach / offensive line coach Antonio Bradford will not be retained. Bradford served as the interim head coach following the dismissal of Reggie Barlow.

    Oregon: Athletic director Rob Mullens told USA Today this week that he has already begun conversations with Mark Helfrich’s agent about increasing Helfrich’s annual pay.

    LA Pierce (CC – CA): Offensive coordinator Jason Sabolic has been promoted to the head coaching post.

    We understand that former college coach Terry Lewis, a man beloved in the coaching profession, has passed away. Lewis coached the offensive line at Navy, Illinois, LSU, North Carolina, Colorado, and Mississippi State. Please join us in praying for his family.

    Montana: Per source, defensive coordinator Ty Gregorak, defensive line coach Legi Suiaunoa and running backs coach Justin Green are being retained. The rest of the staff, including offensive coordinator Kefense Hynson, special teams coordinator Jake Cookus, offensive line coach Scott Gragg, receivers coach Torrey Myers and others have been released.

    Nebraska: Mark Banker’s salary is $550,000 per year (two year deal). Mike Cavanaugh’s is $400,000 in year one, $450,000 in year two. Bruce Read will make $450,000 per year (two year deal) and Trent Bray will make $250,000 in a one year deal. All per

    Virginia: Tom O’Brien (tight ends) is headed to retirement in the Charleston, SC area per the Roanaoke Times.

    Western Michigan: The school has announced a six-year extension for head coach P.J. Fleck worth $800,000 a year, making him easily the highest-paid coach in the MAC. 

    Barry Odom: A number of reports began circulating this afternoon that Barry Odom had agreed to join the staff at Missouri. While the connection of obvious and the potential is real; sources tell us this is not a done deal at this time. Will update once more is clear.

    Michigan: Bruce Feldman stated tonight that the reports of Michigan’s $8 million / year offer to Jim Harbaugh “are not accurate“.

    Pitt: Multiple sources tell FootballScoop Pitt is “going big“.

    B.C. Lions (CFL): Jeff Tedford has now formally agreed to become the next head coach of the B.C. Lions according to Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports. Arash Madani first reported the possibility yesterday.

    Texas A&M: The program has announced that offensive line coach B.J. Anderson will not return and will not coach the Aggies in the Liberty Bowl. Grad assistant Chris Smith will step in and coach the offensive line during the bowl game.

    Missouri Valley (NAIA – MO): Missouri Valley College invites applications for Full-Time Assistant Football Coach and Instructor. The successful candidate must possess a Master’s Degree and have previous experience in coaching defensive backs. Experience with recruiting and strength program considered a plus.     Boston College: Boston College has announced a contract extension for Steve Addazio keeping him at the school through 2020, as first reported by Pete Thamel of SI. Thamel writes that Michigan gauged Addazio’s interest in their vacant job, and that Addazio “was considered one of the prime candidates after (Jim) Harbaugh.” This confirms our report from Dec. 5.

    Wisconsin: As we reported yesterday, Dave Aranda is planning to stay at Wisconsin as Paul Chryst’s defensive coordinator. Andy Baggot of the Wisconsin State Journal is reporting the same.

    Florida State: According to (the Seminoles’ Rivals site), Florida State officials and Jimbo Fisher are expected to announce a new long-term agreement that will make him one of the highest paid coaches in the country. The announcement is reportedly going to be made before the Rose Bowl semifinal game against Oregon. Fisher made just shy of $3.6 million this past season.

    Kentucky: Safeties and special teams coach Craig Naivar is leaving the staff. Multiple reports, including UK beat writer Jon Hale, state that he is joining the staff at Houston.

    Carroll College (NAIA – MT): Carroll College has an open date for Aug. 29th 2015. We are looking for a home game in 2015 and can travel in 2016. Will play host to NAIA or NCAA Division II or III in 2015. Looking for Division I or II guarantee (away) game in 2017 or 2018.     Memphis: The Commercial Appeal is reporting that Justin Fuente has agreed to a new agreement with Memphis.

    West Florida (D-II): Earlier this month we reported that St. Joseph’s (D-II – IN) head coach Cory Sanders was leaving for a position on staff at West Florida, and today the school formally announced him as the team’s defensive coordinator.

    South Florida: Former Purdue and EKU head coach Danny Hope is expected to be named offensive line coach at USF per Thayer Evans. Glad to see Danny getting back in. Good football coach.

    Clarion (D-II – PA): Offensive coordinator, and Clarion alum, Chris Weibel has been named interim head coach.

    Benedict (D-II – SC): TV station WALB 10 is reporting that Albany State (D-II – GA) head coach Mike White is expected to be named head coach at Benedict College later today. White recently announced his retirement at Albany State.

    Chowan (D-II – NC): Chowan has an immediate opening for position of an assistant coach, running backs/strength & conditioning coordinator. This is a full-time (12-month) position that will report to the head football coach and will be responsible for assisting in all aspects of the university’s intercollegiate football program. The selected individual will be held accountable to recruit and retain quality student-athletes for the University and the football program and perform other duties as assigned by the Head Football Coach. Preferences include collegiate coaching experience (or other significant coaching experiences) working with running backs and coordinating strength & conditioning programs, experience recruiting Southeastern states as well as video breakdown, analysis and editing with Hudl.     Iowa State: Per source, Derek Hoodjer has been promoted to defensive grad assistant and will work with the linebackers. Hoodjer had been serving in a student assistant role with the Cyclones.
