    Mendocino College (JC – CA): Offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Matt Schaffert resigned due to personal health and professional reasons. Head coach Frank Espy has taken over offensive play calling duties.

    Shippensburg (D-II – PA): Shippensburg University is now accepting applications for a defensive graduate assistant (defensive backs). Starting date is January 12, 2015. Compensation includes tuition and stipend. Housing is not included. Job duties: coaching your own position, practice planning, scouting, video analysis, skill and team instruction, all phases of recruiting and responsibilities as assigned by the head coach. Coaching and/or playing experience preferred. Minority applicants are encouraged to apply.     SEC: The league has formed a five-member search committee (Arkansas chancellor Dr. David Gearhart, Alabama president Dr. Judith Bonner, Kentucky president Dr. Eli Capilouto, Mississippi State president Dr. Mark Keenum, and Missouri president Dr. R. Bowen Loftin) to find Mike Slive’s replacement. The conference hopes to have a new commissioner in place “in a timely manner to allow a transition period before Slive’s retirement on July 31, 2015.”

    Florida: 247 Sports is reporting this morning that Chip Kelly would listen if Florida called. Colin Cowherd added much of the same on the radio. We checked with a source as close as possible to the situation. The response was “Zero Chance!”

    SMU: The Dallas Morning News is reporting this morning that per a source, SMU has already had “preliminary discussions with Mack Brown, floating $4 million annually over eight years, sources say.” Anyone believe that?

    Oklahoma State: Oklahoma State has filed suit against Texas “offensive coordinator” Joe Wickline. At stake, $593,000.

    Jacksonville State: Athletic director Warren “Moose” Koegel has announced he will retire at the end of the year. Koegel, who was an assistant football coach at Rutgers and UConn in the 90s, has served as AD at Jacksonville State since June 2011.

    Texas: The University of Texas plans to begin to pay each of their athletes approximately $10,000 per year to cover “cost of attendance” and “use of likeness” according to athletic director Steve Patterson.

    Northwestern Oklahoma State (D-II): Head coach Alan Hall has stepped down due to health concerns. Offensive coordinator Kevin Turco will continue to serve as interim head coach until a permanent head coach is selected.

    On the possibility of Jeff Long and Bret Bielema to Michigan.

    TCU: Texas Christian University is looking to hire a social media coordinator. Read more on the position here.

    Florida State: Offensive line coach Rick Trickett has returned to practice after spending the weekend in the hospital after a heart attack.

    Kentucky Christian (NAIA): Kentucky Christian University (NAIA) has an open date for Sept. 5, 2015 and Sept. 3, 2016. We must have a home game in 2015 and will travel in 2016. Interested programs can contact head coach Gene Peterson at gpeterson@kcu.edu.

    Just a reminder, the last day to register for the 2015 NCAA and AFCA Future Football Coaches Academy down in Louisville during the AFCA convention (January 11-13) is Wednesday, October 22nd at 5:00pm. The academy is restricted to those no more than three years removed from college graduation. With only 30 available seats, the selection process is competitive.     Oregon State: DFO Dan Van De Riet has been promoted to associate athletic director.

    Valley City State (ND): Valley City State has the following open dates for the 2015 season and subsequent dates in 2016; Sept 5, Sept 12 and possibly Nov 14th .     A high school coach in South Carolina has been fired…for smashing watermelons?

    College of Faith (AR): Our College Of Faith – Arkansas branch is starting is football program in 2015. We need games for 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018. We need games for all weekend dates, except 10/15/2015 and we will compete at D1, D2, D3, NAIA, USCAA levels as our other locations do presently.     Florida: Jeremy Foley issued a statement today that he will continue to evaluate the team as the season plays out. Here is our read on the situation at Florida.

    Wilmington College (D-III – OH): Defensive line coach Bryce Bozman has been relieved of his duties, per source.

    College Football Playoff: Archie Manning is taking a leave of absence from the College Football Playoff selection committee. Manning will undergo surgery next month to help relieve discomfort he is experiencing in his legs. The committee will go with 12 members for this season. The committee asserts that Archie will return in 2015.

    Florida State: Offensive line coach Rick Trickett is out of the hospital but won’t return until Tuesday at the earliest after missing Saturday night’s win over Notre Dame due to health concerns. Check out the FSU offensive line’s tribute to Trickett from last night.

    Florida: Gainesville reporter Pat Dooley noted this morning that no changes were expected at Florida over the next two weeks.
