Georgia: Former Minnesota and Louisiana Lafayette offensive coordinator Jay Johnson is joining Kirby Smart’s staff as an offensive analyst source tells FootballScoop.

Northern Illinois: Source tells FootballScoop tight ends coach Bob Bostad is no longer part of the staff. Prior to joining the NIU staff for the 2016 season, Bostad coached offensive line for the Tampa Bay Bucs and Tennessee Titans the prior four seasons and at Wisconsin from 2006-2011. We hear Bostad is expected to join the Wisconsin staff again…this time coaching inside linebackers. Bostad played linebacker in the late 80s; but has coached on the offensive side of the ball exclusively.

Cal: Sources tell FootballScoop Miguel Reveles is joining the Cal staff as special teams quality control. Reveles has spent the past four seasons on Rich Rodriquez’ staff at Arizona, working primarily with special teams & running backs…along with facilitating JC recruiting and overall recruiting in the Southern California area. Multiple outlets are reporting the same.

Oregon: In response to a report that led to a 1-month suspension of his strength coach, Willie Taggart is no longer talking to the Ducks’ lead beat writer. This will be viewed as a mistake by many.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats (Canada): Phillip Lolley has joined the staff as linebackers coach and run game coordinator after spending last season with the Saskatchewan Roughriders coaching the linebackers. Also, former Lamar (FCS – TX) offensive line coach Dennis McKnight will serve as special teams coordinator and Montreal Alouettes quality control assistant William Fields will work as a defensive / special teams assistant.

Houston: Offensive line coach Chris Scelfo’s deal is for two-years and worth $250,000 annually, per Joseph Duarte.

Minnesota Vikings: Darrell Hazell (WRs) and Derik Keyes (assistant strength coach) have formally been added to the staff.

Louisiana Tech: Sources tell FootballScoop former LSU & Georgia receivers coach Tony Ball is expected to join the LA Tech staff.

Scoop Him Up: Will King is an experienced coach who is looking to get back into the game. King stepped out of coaching to take an active role in helping his wife raise their children, but is now looking to get back into coaching. He served as defensive coordinator previously at West Virginia State and Bluefield College, and served as assistant head coach, recruiting coordinator and defensive line coach at Concord University. Each of those jobs helped him gain recruiting up and down the lower portion of the East Coast. King lists Charlotte head coach Brad Lambert, NC State assistant head coach for defense / corners coach George Barlow and Coastal Carolina defensive coordinator Mickey Matthews among his references. Texas Tech: Kliff Kingsbury has completed his coaching staff with the formal addition of Terrance Jamison as defensive line coach. Jamison spent the past three seasons at FAU coaching the defensive line.

New Research: Developing an All-Inclusive Defensive ID System – With the multiple looks that Dakota State University (SD) offensive line coach Sam Gooding received from defenses each week, it was clear that the classic “covered/uncovered” principles in his zone schemes could not always account for every player in the box. So he and his staff had to scrap his former and devise an entirely new system, which is divided into three categories: the base “Front” (Under, Okie, etc.), the “Box” (number of players at LB depth in the box), and “Tags” (different descriptors for small adjustments). In X&O Labs clinic report, Coach Gooding details how this naming system allowed his players to quickly analyze a defense pre-snap and adjust their blocking rules accordingly. Fairmont State (D-II – WV): Fairmont State University is looking for an opponent for week 1 (Aug. 31 or Sept. 2) of the 2017 season. Would prefer Thursday, August 31. Will consider Division I FCS or Division 2 opponents. Willing to discuss terms for home and away games. Temple: Larry Knight, who coached the outside linebackers at Georgia State last season, has joined the Temple staff as assistant director of player personnel.

Northwest Missouri State (D-II): Per source, Winona State (D-II – MN) offensive line coach Mike Cunningham is leaving to join the Northwest Missouri State staff as offensive line coach.

Albion (D-III – MI): Justin Sweeney has accepted the a position coaching the secondary at Albion, per source. Sweeney joins the staff after serving as a defensive quality control coach at Central Michigan last season.

Stonehill College (D-II -MA): Stonehill College seeks applicants for the position of assistant football coach for defense (defensive line). Preferred candidates will have prior experience playing/coaching on the defensive side of the ball, preferably defensive line, with at least 1 year of collegiate coaching experience and have ties to the Northeast region. Candidates will be responsible for coaching a position group, recruiting a geographical area, film editing/breakdown (HUDL), and all other duties assigned by the head football coach. A bachelor’s degree and valid driver’s license is required. Salary will be $12,000 and include an on-campus meal plan. No health benefits are included, however there is a possibility of on-campus housing available through the rest of the Spring semester. Ohio: Michigan State defensive graduate assistant De’Angelo Smith is joining the Ohio staff as corners coach, per Hondo Carpenter. We can confirm the move.

McNeese State (FCS – LA): Sources tell FootballScoop Northwestern State offensive coordinator / offensive line coach Ben Norton will be the new offensive line coach / run game coordinator at McNeese.

Indiana State: New head coach Curt Mallory has signed a 5-year contract worth $200,000 annually before bonuses or media payouts.

Florida’s new facility — a holographic training room! — could close the gap with its rivals to the West.

Western Michigan: Billy Vandemerkt, who coached the running backs at West Florida (D-II) the past few seasons, is joining the WMU staff in a quality control capacity, per source.

Washington Redskins: Per source, former Jaguars offensive coaching assistant Chris O’Hara is joining the Redskins in an offensive quality control role.

Charlotte: Brad Lambert has announced the hiring of Keith Henry as running backs coach to complete his coaching staff. Henry spent the last three seasons as assistant head coach / defensive coordinator / defensive backs coach at Catawba College (D-II – NC) and spent over a decade at Wake Forest prior to that.
