Denver Broncos: The organization and John Elway have agreed to a new five-year deal that keeps him in Denver through the 2021 season, per Adam Schefter. Schefter adds that it is “fully expected” that Elway’s new deal will make him the highest paid GM in the league.
Carolina Panthers: Personnel director Mark Koncz, who was promoted by former GM Dave Gettleman just two months ago, has been fired by interim GM Marty Hurney today, per Joe Person.
Ole Miss: Interim head coach Matt Luke noted today that he plans to hire an offensive line coach and hopes to have somebody on campus by the end of the week.
North Carolina: The University of North Carolina Department of Athletics is currently recruiting for the position of Director of Player Personnel. Responsibilities include: Strategic development and implementation of all recruiting program/plans for prospective student-athletes for UNC’s football coaches. Key to this role is establishing and maintaining effective relationships with High School Coaches; managing and coordinating all aspects of recruiting within strict NCAA rules and regulations; decision making responsibility for targeting recruits, selection order and input into scholarships offered. Manages recruitment database, develops list of summer camps; develops brochures and communication plans, scouting visits, assist in organizing official campus visits. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s in Sports Administration preferred. 2-3 years of experience in recruiting operations is preferred. Technical football knowledge including terminology, schemes, and procedures that are used in the game of football. Ability to understand and comply with NCAA and ACC Bylaws. Supervisory experience helpful. Possess excellent communication skills (oral and written). Coaching experience helpful. Ability to work in extremely high stress and pressured situations. College of Idaho (NAIA): The College of Idaho is looking to hire a wide receivers coach as soon as possible, as camp starts next week. Looking for someone who played college football, and preferably coached wide receivers before. Compensation will be based on experience. Big Ten Network: Former Ohio State standout James Laurinaitis and former Michigan player Braylon Edwards are joining the Big Ten Network as analysts.
Wayne State College (D-II – NE): Wayne State College has an immediate opening for one Defensive Graduate Assistant coach. The position could also be a part-time, paid position. The primary coaching responsibilities will be working with the Defensive Line. Previous experience is required. The position requires a highly motivated person to assist with the implementation of practices, evaluation of prospective student athletes, off and on campus recruiting, scouting opponents, and other duties as assigned by the head coach. Applicants must qualify for the State of Nebraska defensive driving certificate. This position will be filled immediately, and minorities are encouraged to apply. Graduate Assistantships are granted based on acceptance into Graduate School at Wayne State College. Florida Tech (D-II): Former Middle Tennessee staffer Joshua Adkins has taken the DFO/defensive line job at Florida Tech.
East Tennessee State (FCS): Former Northwestern State associate head coach/defensive coordinator Daryl Daye will be the defensive line coach at East Tennessee State, sources tell FootballScoop.
William and Mary (FCS – VA): Central Connecticut State (D-II) outside linebackers coach / recruiting coordinator Holman Copeland will be the new corners coach, per source.
Lenior-Rhyne (D-II – NC): Cameron Clark, who served as a volunteer coach at Old Dominion this summer after graduating from Ferrum in May, has joined the staff as an offensive graduate assistant working with the offensive line.
Mercyhurst (D-II – PA): Mercyhurst has an immediate opening for an offensive graduate assistant to work with the TE/H Backs position. The successful candidate will coach his own position, run positional meetings, assist with special teams, contribute to the weekly game plan and have his own recruiting area. Other responsibilities include S&C, Equipment, Video and all other aspects of the football program assigned by the HFC. Qualifications include: Bachelor’s Degree, coaching and/or playing experience, and acceptance into graduate school (3.0 minimum GPA). Quincy (D-II – IL): Ben Clark (TEs) and Phil Schron III (defensive graduate assistant) have each joined the staff. Clark spent last season coaching the running backs at MacMurray College (D-III – IL), while Schron III coached the linebackers at East Ridge HS (FL).
Louisiana-Monroe: Head coach Matt Viator will not be attending Sun Belt Media Day as he deals with a family matter, and assistant head coach / defensive coordinator Mike Collins will be representing the program.
LA Rams: Brian Xanders is joining the Rams front office, per Tom Pelissero. Xanders previously worked in the front office as a senior personnel executive with the Lions and was with the Broncos before that.
Quincy (D-II – IL): Interim head coach Gary Bass has moved defensive coordinator Khanis Hubbard to offensive coordinator / offensive line coach and linebackers coach Sean Kelly is being promoted to defensive coordinator.
