    Bethune-Cookman: Sources tell FootballScoop that the University’s short list of candidates includes, but is not limited to, UCF running backs coach Danny Barrett, Southern head coach Dawson Odums, Miami (Ohio) running backs coach Autry Denson as well as multiple internal candidates from Brian Jenkins staff as well, certainly including Terry Sims.

    Vanderbilt: Derek Mason has reached out to Michigan State quarterbacks coach / recruiting coordinator Brad Salem about the vacant offensive coordinator position, per Hondo Carpenter who covers Michigan State.

    Morehead State (FCS – KY): Morehead State is accepting resumes for an entry level (part-time) position with primary responsibility of coaching running backs. Position includes coaching, recruiting, equipment, and administrative duties assigned by HFC. A minimum of 1-2 years coaching experience is preferred. Playing experience at RB or previous experience coaching the position is a plus. Compensation is estimated to be $1,000 monthly stipend.     Oregon State: Former SMU defensive backs coach Derrick Odum is joining Gary Andersen’s staff.

    South Florida: USF confirms that Danny Hope has been hired as co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach and QB coach David Reaves will serve as co-offensive coordinator overseeing the passing game. Head coach Willie Taggart will resume all play-calling duties according to USF beat writer Joey Johnston.

    Fairmont State (D-II – WV): Northeastern Oklahoma A&M linebackers coach Zach Crissup is joining the staff, per source.

    Nebraska-Kearney (D-II): Joe Holtzclaw has been hired to coach the offensive line. Holtzclaw previously served as offensive coordinator / offensive line coach at Hastings College (NAIA – NE).

    Ohio Northern (D-II): Ohio Northern University is accepting resumes for a restricted earnings position with primary responsibility of coaching running backs. The job also includes responsibility for own position and recruiting area as well as additional duties as assigned. Proficiency with HUDL editing software is required. A minimum of 1-2 years coaching experience is preferred. Playing experience at RB or previous experience coaching the position is a plus. Compensation is commensurate with experience level and includes a monthly stipend as well as on-campus housing.     Arkansas: AD Jeff Long was asked yesterday if a pay raise for Bret Bielema was imminent, “we’re not at that point yet” but Long reiterated that he is pleased with Bielema’s work. Long says they will revisit this, along with a number of other topics, following the bowl game. Regarding Bielema Long offered, “You know what? Bret has had some success here. He got us to a bowl game probably a year earlier than maybe I anticipated. So we’ll discuss those things. That’s important.” – Quotes and link via

    Kansas: Northern Illinois linebackers coach Kevin Kane is expected to join David Beaty’s staff, per Thayer Evans.

    Alabama State: Per source, associate head coach / offensive line coach Antonio Bradford will not be retained. Bradford served as the interim head coach following the dismissal of Reggie Barlow.

    Oregon: Athletic director Rob Mullens told USA Today this week that he has already begun conversations with Mark Helfrich’s agent about increasing Helfrich’s annual pay.

    We understand that former college coach Terry Lewis, a man beloved in the coaching profession, has passed away. Lewis coached the offensive line at Navy, Illinois, LSU, North Carolina, Colorado, and Mississippi State. Please join us in praying for his family.

    Montana: Per source, defensive coordinator Ty Gregorak, defensive line coach Legi Suiaunoa and running backs coach Justin Green are being retained. The rest of the staff, including offensive coordinator Kefense Hynson, special teams coordinator Jake Cookus, offensive line coach Scott Gragg, receivers coach Torrey Myers and others have been released.

    Nebraska: Mark Banker’s salary is $550,000 per year (two year deal). Mike Cavanaugh’s is $400,000 in year one, $450,000 in year two. Bruce Read will make $450,000 per year (two year deal) and Trent Bray will make $250,000 in a one year deal. All per

    Virginia: Tom O’Brien (tight ends) is headed to retirement in the Charleston, SC area per the Roanaoke Times.

    Western Michigan: The school has announced a six-year extension for head coach P.J. Fleck worth $800,000 a year, making him easily the highest-paid coach in the MAC. 

    Barry Odom: A number of reports began circulating this afternoon that Barry Odom had agreed to join the staff at Missouri. While the connection of obvious and the potential is real; sources tell us this is not a done deal at this time. Will update once more is clear.

    Michigan: Bruce Feldman stated tonight that the reports of Michigan’s $8 million / year offer to Jim Harbaugh “are not accurate“.

    Pitt: Multiple sources tell FootballScoop Pitt is “going big“.

    B.C. Lions (CFL): Jeff Tedford has now formally agreed to become the next head coach of the B.C. Lions according to Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports. Arash Madani first reported the possibility yesterday.

    Texas A&M: The program has announced that offensive line coach B.J. Anderson will not return and will not coach the Aggies in the Liberty Bowl. Grad assistant Chris Smith will step in and coach the offensive line during the bowl game.

    Missouri Valley (NAIA – MO): Missouri Valley College invites applications for Full-Time Assistant Football Coach and Instructor. The successful candidate must possess a Master’s Degree and have previous experience in coaching defensive backs. Experience with recruiting and strength program considered a plus.     Boston College: Boston College has announced a contract extension for Steve Addazio keeping him at the school through 2020, as first reported by Pete Thamel of SI. Thamel writes that Michigan gauged Addazio’s interest in their vacant job, and that Addazio “was considered one of the prime candidates after (Jim) Harbaugh.” This confirms our report from Dec. 5.

    Wisconsin: As we reported yesterday, Dave Aranda is planning to stay at Wisconsin as Paul Chryst’s defensive coordinator. Andy Baggot of the Wisconsin State Journal is reporting the same.

    Florida State: According to (the Seminoles’ Rivals site), Florida State officials and Jimbo Fisher are expected to announce a new long-term agreement that will make him one of the highest paid coaches in the country. The announcement is reportedly going to be made before the Rose Bowl semifinal game against Oregon. Fisher made just shy of $3.6 million this past season.

    Kentucky: Safeties and special teams coach Craig Naivar is leaving the staff. Multiple reports, including UK beat writer Jon Hale, state that he is joining the staff at Houston.

    Carroll College (NAIA – MT): Carroll College has an open date for Aug. 29th 2015. We are looking for a home game in 2015 and can travel in 2016. Will play host to NAIA or NCAA Division II or III in 2015. Looking for Division I or II guarantee (away) game in 2017 or 2018.     Memphis: The Commercial Appeal is reporting that Justin Fuente has agreed to a new agreement with Memphis.

    West Florida (D-II): Earlier this month we reported that St. Joseph’s (D-II – IN) head coach Cory Sanders was leaving for a position on staff at West Florida, and today the school formally announced him as the team’s defensive coordinator.

    South Florida: Former Purdue and EKU head coach Danny Hope is expected to be named offensive line coach at USF per Thayer Evans. Glad to see Danny getting back in. Good football coach.

    Clarion (D-II – PA): Offensive coordinator, and Clarion alum, Chris Weibel has been named interim head coach.

    Benedict (D-II – SC): TV station WALB 10 is reporting that Albany State (D-II – GA) head coach Mike White is expected to be named head coach at Benedict College later today. White recently announced his retirement at Albany State.

    Chowan (D-II – NC): Chowan has an immediate opening for position of an assistant coach, running backs/strength & conditioning coordinator. This is a full-time (12-month) position that will report to the head football coach and will be responsible for assisting in all aspects of the university’s intercollegiate football program. The selected individual will be held accountable to recruit and retain quality student-athletes for the University and the football program and perform other duties as assigned by the Head Football Coach.     Simon Fraser (Canada): Head coach Jacque Chapdelaine has resigned and will become offensive coordinator of the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

    Kentucky: Sources tell FootballScoop that West Virginia offensive coordinator / quarterbacks Shannon Dawson has agreed to become offensive coordinator at Kentucky. Per second source, Dawson will continue to serve as OC for West Virginia in their upcoming bowl game before heading to Kentucky. Read more here.

    UNLV: Per source, Georgia State defensive backs / special teams coach J.D. Williams will join the UNLV staff coaching the corners.

    Pitt: Athletic director Steve Pederson is leaving the university per release from Pitt. The University announced this news at the very moment that Paul Chryst was announced as head coach at Wisconsin. Absolutely fascinating. Read more here.

    Wisconsin: Paul Chryst has been announced as the new head coach of the Badgers. Chryst will earn $2.3 million per year for five years. Here’s what you should know.

    Michigan: The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport is reporting that Michigan has offered Jim Harbaugh $8 million per year for six years to become their new head coach. Mike Garafalo who covers the NFL for Fox is reporting that Harbaugh had previously told Michigan he wouldn’t consider “the Michigan gig” but now is considering this. Interesting timing, huh guys? Update> Adam Schefter has added: “Multiple NFL and Michigan sources had said for weeks Harbaugh was not expected to wind up at Michigan; but in recent days at least one person familiar with his thinking said he was at least considering it. Another person close to the process said that while it was possible Harbaugh could wind up at Michigan, ‘it was not likely’.” Ross Tucker adds, “If Harbaugh really wanted the UM job would he leak this offer?”

    Troy: Vic Koenning has now officially been announced as defensive coordinator.

    Winnipeg Blue Bombers (CFL): Per source, Winnipeg Blue Bombers defensive coordinator Gary Etcheverry has been let go after his first season with the club.

    Virginia Union (D-II): VUU is no longer accepting applicants for their offensive line and defensive backs jobs. Thank you for the tremendous amount of interest in both positions.

    UNLV: Tony Sanchez has offered Colorado State assistant head coach / linebackers Tim Skipper his defensive coordinator position at UNLV. If there isn’t clarity soon at CSU, sources tell us Skipper could accept the position by the end of the week. We understand that former Oregon State defensive line coach Joe Seumalo is likely to join Sanchez’ staff as well. Will update…

    Colorado State: Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo is interviewing for the head coaching job, UGA athletic director Greg McGarity is telling reporters today. Note that Colorado State is interviewing a large number of candidates this week. No clear frontrunner or frontrunners yet from what we’ve heard. Will update as more becomes clear.

    Bethany (NAIA – KS): Paul Hubbard has been named head coach. Hubbard spent last season as the defensive coordinator at Midland University (NAIA – NE), and was the defensive coordinator at MidAmerica Nazarene (NAIA – KS) prior to that.

    Houston: The assistant salary pool for Tom Herman’s assistants will be around $2.4 million according to Dennis Dodd.

    Mississippi State: Geoff Collins will owe Mississippi State $75,000 to buy out his contract per Steve Berkowitz of USA Today.

    Missouri State (FCS): Per source, Stec has lined himself up an impressive staff. We hear Northern Iowa OC Mario Verduzco will join as offensive coordinator, Lindenwood assistant head coach / defensive line Marcus Yokeley will join as defensive coordinator, Chris Morton as defensive line (defensive line coach at Wisconsin-Stout), Kenji Jackson as safeties (defensive grad assistant at Northwestern), Peter Badovinac at linebackers (defensive grad assistant at Missouri), Mack Brown as tight ends / special teams coordinator (offensive grad assistant at Missouri), John Egorugwu as receivers (offensive grad assistant at Missouri) and Munir Prince as running backs (receivers coach at Drake).     Nicholls State: Louisiana College (D-III) co-defensive coordinator / linebackers coach Brian Wallace has accepted an assistant coaching job on Tim Rebowe’s staff.

    UNLV: Tony Sanchez has announced that he will retain receivers coach Cedric Cormier, Barney Cotton will serve as offensive coordinator, John Garrison will coach the offensive line, and Ron O’Dell (from Bishop Gorman) will coach the quarterbacks.

    Texas A&M Kingsville (D-II): CSU Pueblo offensive coordinator Daren Wilkinson has been named head coach at Kingsville. Wilkinson will coach Pueblo in the D-II Championship game Saturday.

    Lake Erie College (D-II – OH): Assistant coach Scott Knisely has accepted the head coaching job at St. Francis de Sales HS (OH).

    B.C. Lions (CFL): Jeff Tedford is on the verge of becoming the next head coach of the B.C. Lions according to SportsNet out of Canada. The Vancouver Sun reported Tedford was in talks with general manager Wally Buono on Monday. Tedford assisted on Buono’s staff with the Calgary Stampeders in the early 1990’s.

    San Diego State: Offensive coordinator Bob Toledo will retire following the Poinsettia Bowl.

    Kentucky Christian (NAIA): Gene Peterson has resigned from the head coaching job citing family reasons.

    Montana (FCS): Bob Stitt has been officially announced as the program’s new head coach. Here’s what you should know.

    Florida: The Gators have now announced the hiring of Mississippi State defensive coordinator Geoff Collins as their new defensive coordinator.

    Carroll University (D-III – WI): Carroll University is looking to fill one open date in 2016 and 2017. Weeks #3: 9/17/2016, 9/16/2017 or week #4: 9/24/2016, 9/23/2017 are open. Contact is Mark Krzykowski

    Norfolk State: Latrell Scott’s deal at Norfolk State is for 4 years and $180,000 annually, according to David Hall who covers Norfolk State athletics.

    Missouri State: On Press Box 920 today, Missouri head coach Gary Pinkel noted that new Missouri State head coach Dave Steckel will hire some former Missouri grad assistants, not current members of Pinkel’s staff.

    Alabama State (FCS): Multiple sources tell us that Bethune-Cookman (FCS – FL) head coach Brian Jenkins has agreed to become the new head coach at Alabama State. Jenkins posted a 46-14 record in five seasons at the school.

    Auburn: Former Auburn linebacker Travis Williams will coach the Tigers’ linebackers in the Outback Bowl. Williams served as a defensive analyst this season.

    Arizona Christian (NAIA): Arizona Christian is looking to fill a number of defensive assistants including; DL (with college or high school defensive coordinator experience preferred), DBs (emphasis on safeties), and a stipend defensive quality control assistant (DBs or DTs).     Colorado State: According to Pat Forde of Yahoo Sports, Scott Frost, Vance Bedford, Billy Gonzalez, Tony Alford, Dave Baldwin, Marty English and Pat Narduzzi are involved in the Colorado State search. We have heard other names involved as well.

    TCU: Gary Patterson signed a contract extension over the weekend according to Kate Hairopoulos of the Dallas Morning News. Terms of the contract were not disclosed, but Hairopoulos quoted AD Chris Del Conte as saying Patterson will be taken care of “through the decade.”

    Houston: The school has officially announced the hiring of Tom Herman as head coach. His contract is five years at $1.35 million per year.

    Georgia: Director of football operations Brad Hutcherson is moving to another role inside of the athletic department. We understand that the job is truly open and UGA is accepting applicants. See DFO Scoop for more details.

    Montreal Alouettes (CFL): Three-time CFL Most Outstanding Player Anthony Calvillo has been named an offensive assistant with Montreal.

    Youngstown State (FCS – OH): Bo Pelini will be introduced as head coach at Youngstown State tomorrow per multiple local reports. Once YSU confirms, we can comment further.

    Lewis and Clark (D-III – OR): Former Oregon State chief of staff and former Linfield (D-III – OR) head coach Jay Locey has been announced as the new head coach at Lewis and Clark College. Locey won a national title and 12 conference titles at Linfield.

    Ole Miss: With the departure of Tom Allen to South Florida (as defensive coordinator), assistant athletic director for recruiting operations Corey Batoon has been called on to coach the safeties for the bowl game (Jason Jones will continue to coach the corners), and Dave Wommack will coach the linebackers during that time. Batoon was Hugh Freeze’s defensive backs coach at Arkansas State.

    Houston: As we reported yesterday, ESPN and FoxSports are now also reporting that David Gibbs is expected to be retained.

    Florida: Sources close to the program tell us that while very little is official yet and things could change, Jim McElwain is leaning towards external hires for all positions other than offensive line (Mike Summers will remain on staff per source as previously reported) and with respect to Travaris Robinson who McElwain is trying to keep but who has a strong offer from Auburn as well. When he hired McElwain, Jeremy Foley very much wanted Mac to retain DJ Durkin we have been told. While this remains an option (remember that Durkin is quite a special teams coordinator as well) we understand that a number of other programs are interested in Durkin. Will update as more becomes clear.

    Tom Herman: ESPN is reporting that new Houston head coach Tom Herman will continue to serve as offensive coordinator for Ohio State through their playoff run.

    Dan Mullen: Dan Mullen told the Clarion-Ledger via text that he hasn’t had any direct discussions with any other schools. Mississippi State AD Scott Stricklin added he remains hopeful that Dan will eventually agree to an extension at Mississippi State but so far has not signed their offer.

    Florida: Thayer Evans is reporting that Mississippi State defensive coordinator Geoff Collins is expected to join Jim McElwain’s staff in the same role. Sources tell us the same. ESPN is now reporting that Collins is getting a three year deal.

    Virginia Union University (D-II): Virginia Union University is now accepting resumes for the positions of offensive line and defensive backs coach. Please email the resumes to coach Harris at

    Oregon State: Wisconsin offensive line coach TJ Woods and defensive line coach Chad Kauha’aha’a “are certain to join Andersen in Corvallis, according to sources” reports Andy Baggot of the Wisconsin State Journal.

    ESPN: ESPN announced during Monday Night Football that Jon Gruden has signed an extension through 2021, the length of ESPN’s Monday Night Football contract.

    Washington Redskins: NBC in DC is reporting that Jay Gruden has been told he will return next season.

    Nebraska: Mike Riley has retained defensive backs coach Charlton Warren per Sean Callahan who covers Nebraska for Rivals.

    Samford (FCS – AL): Per source, Chris Hatcher is bringing offensive line coach Shawn Bostick and receivers coach Russ Callaway from Murray and has retained most of the assistants from Pat Sullivan’s staff (including Billy D’Ottavio, Travis Trickett and Ross Newton among others).

    Prairie View A&M (FCS – TX): Sources tell us Alcorn State offensive coordinator Willie Simmons has accepted the head coaching offer at Prairie View and will be announced tomorrow.

    Norfolk State (FCS – VA): HBCU Gameday is reporting, via sources, that Virginia State head coach Latrell Scott will be named the new head coach at Norfolk State. We’ll update once we have confirmed.

    Oregon State: Gary Andersen has now formally announced that Beavers receivers coach Brent Brennan will remain on board as part of his staff. We reported the same yesterday morning following Brennan’s acceptance of Andersen’s offer.

    Murray State (FCS – KY): Per source, Middle Tennessee offensive grad assistant Casey Brockman will join the Murray State staff as quarterbacks coach. We also hear that Gordon Steele will be promoted to offensive line coach and we also hear that Steve Adams (director of football operations / recruiting) may be shifting responsibilities as well.     University of San Diego (FCS): Per source, defensive line coach Kenny Holmes is stepping down to pursue other football opportunities.

    Houston: Ohio State offensive coordinator Tom Herman is expected to be the next head coach at Houston according to Bruce Feldman of Fox Sports (we have now confirmed the hire as well). Our story on a hiring that feels like a great fit for both sides.

    Tom Herman was also selected by a prior winners as the 2014 FootballScoop Offensive Coordinator of the Year on Monday. What a day for the Herman family.

    Prairie View A&M (FCS – TX): Per source, Alcorn State offensive coordinator Willie Simmons is at Prairie View today and sources tell us he could be offered the head job as early as this afternoon. Simmons is also a finalist at FAMU (see below).

    Florida A&M (FCS): Sources in Florida tell us athletic director Kellen Winslow is planning to step down. Winslow, who has been on the job less than one year, has admitted a number of missteps since his hiring. FAMU is in the process of hiring a new head coach. We reported Friday that Joker Phillips, Willie Simmons and Corey Fuller are the three finalists. Our sources do not expect Winslow’s resignation to significantly derail the hiring process. We will keep you updated.

    Delaware State (FCS): Per source, head coach Kermit Blount has been relieved of his duties. The Hornets were 2-10 this season, and Blount was 16-24 in his four seasons leading the program, including a 6-5 mark in 2012. Update> The school has released a statement, confirming that Blount’s contract will not be renewed. Andrew Faison, who joined the staff in March as the safeties coach, will serve as the interim head coach.
