Cincinnati: ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg relays that Luke Fickell has had discussions with Cincinnati but no offer has been extended at this time. As of last night, we had the same understanding, adding that others were still being considered.

Western Kentucky: Ohio State offensive coordinator Ed Warinner is “in serious mix” to be the new head coach at WKU, according to Tim May of the Columbus Dispatch.

Houston: Offensive coordinator Major Applewhite is the new head coach. Todd Orlando, who was serving as the interim head coach, will serve as the defensive coordinator for the bowl game. AD Hunter Yuracheck notes that Applewhite got a 5-year deal, and the two sides have agreed to basic terms, per Joseph Duarte.

Les Miles: Soureces tell FootballScoop, ESPN is very interested in having Les join the network should Les decide none of the coaching openings are the right fit for him. It is our hope the decision makers at the worldwide leader recognize the potential for a daily show. #MakeESPNGreatAgain

Charlie Strong: Charlie is in Tampa today, reports Josh Newberg of 247. Newberg states that no offer has been made yet but that could change today; but he adds that he doesn’t expect a deal to be reached today. Newberg adds that Willie Taggart has been in touch with Strong about joining the Oregon staff as defensive coordinator.

Baylor: Matt Rhule has hired San Antonio Reagan HS head coach David Wetzel to his staff, as reported by Ben Baby of the Dallas Morning News. Sources tell FootballScoop Wetzel will oversee player development. Wetzel is a Baylor alum and the president of the Texas High School Coaches Association.

Georgia Southern: Sources tell FootballScoop Tyson Summers has now offered his offensive coordinator position to Georgia Tech quaterbacks / B-backs coach Bryan Cook. Summers is clearly looking to bring the triple back to Statesboro. We expect a decision on this later today.

LA Valley College (JC – CA): Running backs coach Matt White has taken over as the interim head coach, per source.

Cincinnati: Ohio State co-defensive coordinator Luke Fickell and Cincinnati are in contract negotiations to make him the next head coach of the Bearcats, according to BearcatReport. The report adds that “at this time it is unclear when the deal will be complete.”

Northern Michigan (D-II – MI): According to Adam Rittenberg of ESPN, Michigan State offensive line coach Mark Staten has withdrawn his name from consideration for the head coaching job at NMU. The three candidates that remain in the running are Ferris State (D-II – MI) co-defensive coordinator Kyle Nystrom, Fairmont State (D-II – WV) head coach Jason Woodman, and Grand Valley State (D-II – MI) co-defensive coordinator Nick Postma.

Pikeville (NAIA – KY): The University of Pikeville is seeking an opponent for Sept. 2nd, 2017. Looking for D2/D3 Opponent but prefer a FCS guarantee game. Interested programs can contact Director of Football Operations Justin Lamb at [email protected] or 606-438-6592.
